Medfield Students Spell F-U-N
Students Battled Wits in Annual Spelling Bee!
MCPE hosted its 12th annual Spelling Bee, with nearly 350 students participating in the event. This low-stress competition allowed students to showcase their smarts while having fun! Congratulations to Wheelock School champions "The Alphas" and Dale Street School winners "The Zebulons."

The Spelling Bee would not have been possible without the support of many volunteers. We would like to extend a special thanks to our moderators:  Jim Kuehl, Jim James, and Steve Grenham. We are also grateful to our judges and stage helpers: Maryanne Sullivan, Anna Mae O'Shea Brooke, Jeff Marsden, Donna Olson, Marci Murphy, Nicole Sheehan, Kerry Cowell, Mike Mason, Maura Condon and Bethany Sager.

We would also like to recognize the following local businesses that donated food for our concession stand: Blue Moon Bagel Cafe, Casabella, Papa Gino's and Royal Pizza.

MCPE Book Drive at Park Street Books
Start your spring cleaning! Park Street Books will donate to MCPE when you bring them your nearly-new children's books. You can de-clutter your home and support the Medfield Public Schools at the same time!
MCPE Wins PALS Award
MCPE is the 2017 recipient of the Massachusetts School Library Association's PALS (Parents as Library Supporters) Award, which recognizes parent/teacher groups that have had a significant impact on their school district's libraries.

Elementary school Library Media Specialists Randie Groden (Memorial), Bethany Robertson (Wheelock) and Kerry Cowell (Dale) nominated MCPE for the transformative impact of its grants on their school libraries. Over the last four years, MCPE has donated over $100,000 to help reinvent the libraries at Medfield's five public schools.

We are proud to partner with these forward-thinking educators, who realize that education in the 21st century requires new modes of learning that integrate creativity, problem-solving, collaboration and often technology. MCPE grants have funded a variety of innovative tools and infrastructure - from codeable robots to 3D printers to collaborative furniture. Your support of MCPE has a direct impact on our students - thank you!

Over $135,000 in Grants Awarded This Year!
In 2017, we have continued to receive, review and fund amazing grants! Year-to-date, we have funded 30 grants across all five Medfield Public Schools. Recent grants include:

Standing Desk Pilot - Building upon a successful pilot at Wheelock School, Dale Street Principal Steve Grenham authored a grant request for 15 standing desks, which will provide alternative seating for students.

High School Turf/Track Audio System - In partnership with a grant from the MHS PTO, MCPE has funded a new audio system at the new turf field. The system will enhance the experience of Blake and MHS students through numerous activities including wellness classes, band, athletic events and graduation.

Introduction of Engineering Robotics Unit - This grant funded three Lego Mindstorm kits to be used in a small pilot robotics club. If the pilot is successful, the goal will be to secure additional funding to support an engineering robotics unit as part of the 2017-2018 8th grade science curriculum.
