During the month of January, Administrative volunteers, Ellen Hutti and Rachel Rimmerman played a crucial role at Casa by overseeing the volunteer calendar while Volunteer Coordinator, Ruth Vilches, was in Argentina. Both Ellen and Rachel coordinated volunteer shifts, contacted volunteers to fill shifts, and adjusted the volunteer calendar as needed in order to ensure that the clinic ran smoothly during the entire month.Ellen is a sophomore at SLU while Rachel works full-time at SLU. Both started volunteering in late 2016.
Carol Marshall is currently a volunteer at Casa as part of an ongoing partnership with Ignatian Volunteer Corps. In addition to helping with redesigning our bilingual proficiency assessment and assisting with Interpreter training labs, as of February 2017, Carol has accumulated over 500 volunteer hours at Casa as a volunteer interpreter.
Thank you Ellen, Rachel & Carol for your flexibility, hard work and eagerness to be a part of Casa's team. We're thankful for you!

A Message from the VC
Greetings! I hope this newsletter finds all of you well. By now, I've met almost every one of you, and it has truly been a pleasure to interact with such quality people on a daily basis.
This newsletter offers an opportunity to reflect on Casa's work, your work as a volunteer, and the work that we've collectively been able to accomplish as a volunteer team. I hope that you enjoy reading this bi-annual newsletter, and please let me know if you would ever like to submit something for approval that we could potentially include! Thank you to each of you for your dedication to our patients.
Ruth Vilches- Volunteer Coordinator
come Spring Intern Team!
As part of our desire to always improve our patient services, Casa de Salud has revamped our intern program to include extra clinical exposure as well as organizational exposure.
This Spring, we are excited to have 13 interns volunteering 10-15 hours per week as Interpreters, Medical Scribes, GUIA Navigators and Administrative/Outreach Interns. The goal for our intern program is to better the quality of our services through the increased consistency and time spent in each volunteer position. Our internships also provides volunteers an opportunity to get a closer look at Casa as an organization with our "Inside Casa" events. These events are held every few weeks and are informal conversations about various topics pertaining to the organizational side of Casa as well as information about other community organizations working with immigrant populations in the Greater St. Louis Metro Area. Thank you to our 2017 Spring Intern team!
If you are interested in applying for one of our internships, email Ruth at email@example.com. We are currently taking applications for Summer '17. Applications are due on March 22nd. Some late exceptions will be made.
Casa hosts our annual Gala every year. This year, we will have a raffle for volunteers who would like to attend. Raffle tickets will be sold for $25 for a potential seat at the Gala. Let me know if you would like to purchase a raffle ticket! All proceeds will go to Casa de Salud.
The party gets started in Saturday, May 6! Sponsorships are still available and individual tickets are now on sale. To purchase or for more information, please call 314-977-1200, or email at firstname.lastname@example.org.
National Volunteer Week is April 23-29. Stay tuned for special events that will be held during the week!
Support for Casa
Did you know that Casa is currently working on a Mental Health Collaborative with the Psychoanalytic Institute, BIAS, St. Francis Community Services and SLU's Medical Family Therapy Program? We are in the process of fundraising for the renovation of our building next door. While there are incredible organizations already specifically focusing on mental and behavioral health services for the foreign-born population, Casa desires to increase the overall capacity through this collaborative initiative. We need your support to help make it happen!
Please consider a donation to Casa today. It's easy! You
to make a gift on-line, or you call us at 314-977-1200.
Your generosity makes Casa de Salud the premier resource for affordable and quality care for the foreign-born community in the St. Louis region!
