Due This Wednesday: Six Flags Read to Succeed 6 Hr Reading Club Form (3/1)
Dear Families,
Welcome to the Six Flags® Read to Succeed Six Hour Reading Club! Briarlake is participating in an exciting program that encourages students in grades K through 6 to read for fun.
Read to Succeed is a free program sponsored by Six Flags Theme Parks. Every student who completes six hours of recreational reading before the school's deadline listed on the bottom of this page is eligible for a free admission ticket, valid at the participating Six Flags Theme Park that the school has selected.
Students will develop a greater appreciation for books when they see that you think reading is important too. You are sure to have fun as you investigate the world of reading together!
Here's what you need to know:
  • Only students in grades K through 6 are eligible to participate.
  • Review the attached reading log. Your child should use this sheet to record what and how long he/she reads.
  • Your child must complete 6 hours, or 360 minutes, of recreational reading.
  • Please initial each entry and then sign the reading log to verify that the 6 hours of reading has been completed.
  • Your child can read books, magazines, newspapers, or comic books (digital or hard copy).
  • Reading for homework or a class assignment does NOT count.
  • Students can read silently, aloud, or with an adult-you can read to your child, or your child can read to you.
  •  Remind your child to return the reading log to his/her teacher by the deadline:  March 1, 2017
  • Your child's school will submit your child's information and hours read.
Late entries will NOT be accepted

About the Tickets:

Tickets will be awarded to students by their teacher/school coordinator.  The ticket is valid for admission to ONE Six Flags theme park on SELECT DATES ONLY during the 2017 season. Park name and valid dates will be printed on the tickets. Please understand that the school can only select one Six Flags Theme Park. The ticket will only be valid for the park that is listed on the ticket. The valid dates will not be announced prior to the ticket award date in early May.  Tickets are valid for students in grades K-6 only and are not valid for anyone over the age of 13. No exceptions.  Each ticket is valid for one free student admission only.  A Season Pass upgrade offer will be available during the ticket valid dates. The upgrade offer information will be printed on the ticket. Tickets are NOT for resale and are nontransferable. They cannot be replaced if lost, stolen or damaged. We hope that you and your child enjoy this free program and spend time reading together. If you have any questions about the program or have ticket questions, you will need to contact your child's teacher or school before the school year is over.
Happy Reading!

The Six Flags® Read to Succeed Team
This Thursday, March 2nd, is Read Across America Day!

NEA's Read Across America is an annual reading motivation and awareness program that calls for every child in every community to celebrate reading on March 2, the birthday of beloved children's author Dr. Seuss

You're never too old, too wacky, too wild,
To pick up a book and read with a child.
You're never too busy, too cool, or too hot,
To pick up a book and share what you've got.
In schools and communities,
Let's gather around,
Let's pick up a book,
Let's pass it around.
There are kids all around you,
Kids who will need
Someone to hug,
Someone to read.
Come join us March 2nd
Your own special way
And make this America's
Read to Kids Day.

PTA STEM Parents Needed
We are still in need of several STEM Parents.
STEM Parents are very similar to Reader Parents.
This is a job that can be done at home.

Please read the STEM parent description below.  If you would be able to volunteer as a STEM parent, please email Debbie Martin-Gerstle at  Thank you :)

STEM Parent Description:

The STEM parents's job is one of coordination.  They communicate with the teacher to enlist parent volunteers and request supplies for STEM days.

Before each STEM day, the class STEM parent will ask the teacher if parent assistance and/or STEM materials are needed for that particular STEM day.  If so, the STEM parent will find out what kind of help/material is needed, and what times parents should attend.  The STEM parent will then email the class parents via Sign-Up Genius (or other volunteer sign up program) and request parent assistance and supplies.  The Volunteer Sign Up will include the materials requested and the times and the activities for which help is needed.

We still need STEM Parents for:

Henderson Middle School Foundation Annual Campaign, March 6 - 24 - please help your future school
Donate Today
Help your child's future school by making a donation to the HMS Foundation! The foundation's goal is to provide educational resources to the school, to enrich the school's academic and cultural offerings. Because of the foundation, HMS has been working towards becoming a STEM school -  and we are making progress toward that goal! This year, HMS has one STEM team in 7th and 8th grades, and they have been a great success. More teams will be added in the future.
But it's not just about STEM. You probably know that HMS is undergoing renovations and is getting a new wing. The money raised this year can also be used to help purchase equipment or supplies that might be needed for the new wing.
This means that donations made today will go to programs that directly impact your rising elementary student. Your participation will help ensure the HMS Foundation can continue supporting the school. Remember - a strong school makes for a strong neighborhood.
How to donate: Please visit the website    to make a donation online or for information how to donate by check.  If you have questions, please email
