Carbon Crunchers Take a Big Bite

out of their Carbon Footprint

Congratulations, Carbon Crunchers!

Together, the Carbon Crunchers, our 131st Climate Action Team, reduced 55,195 annual pounds of climate pollution and earned 104,800 resilience points. This team was made up of 19 folks from Lagunitas, Mill Valley, Novato, San Anselmo, and San Rafael. Here are the actions they are most excited about:

Becky is using her new motto - Refuse, Reduce, Reuse, Repair and Recycle. To reduce her consumption, she decided - no more shopping for unnecessary things!

Cindy signed up for Deep Green and, while upgrading her electric panel, decided to increase the amperage to accommodate a future electric car!

Nick has become more involved within his local community of San Anselmo by joining neighborhood committees and organizations to help push for alternative transportation options for all.

Loretta is “tightening her belt” by being resourceful and conserving energy. She is boiling extra water and putting it into her thermos for refills throughout the day - single stove use!

Janine adopted a meal shopping plan yielding unexpected benefits - improving her diet and reducing food waste.

Beverly has a newfound understanding and appreciation for not needing all the “STUFF”. Over the past weeks, she has committed herself to cleaning out, donating, giving away, or repurposing what she has.

Amena made three trips to the Marin Hazardous Waste Facility to responsibly recycle years and years of accumulated paint cans in her garage. Just show your ID and it's free!

Wren, our youngest team member, is making a conscious effort to conserve energy, choosing to turn the lights off when she leaves her bedroom or unplug things that are not being used.

We look forward to following up with the Carbon Crunchers as they continue to take new actions to fulfill their 2030 Climate Action pledges!

Resilient Neighborhoods Expands Advisory Council

Thank You, and Welcome!

As we continue to build stronger, more resilient neighborhoods, we want to recognize the incredible power of community collaboration. Resilient Neighborhood’s fourth core value honors the collective strength of people working together and sharing their knowledge, skills, and experiences.

Last year we took a significant step forward in achieving this vision, forming the Resilient Neighborhoods Advisory Council.

This year the council has expanded to eight dedicated individuals; each brings their unique perspectives and expertise, further representing our capacity to serve each other and our community effectively.

Their commitment to volunteering their valuable time is greatly appreciated, and we are extremely fortunate to have such a talented and passionate group as part of our team.

Please join us in welcoming our new council members: Cecilia Zamora, Christine O’Rourke, Ellie Cohen, Joanne Webster, Kim Scheibly, and Sarah Wotherspoon, along with our continuing members Damon Connolly and Stephanie Moulton-Peters.

Zero Waste Marin

Zero Waste Marin is working on a pilot program with the non-profit Reuse Alliance to bring free Repair Fairs to Marin County!

What is a Repair Fair?

Repair Fairs are free events where community members can bring an item (lamp, bike, clothes, small appliances, etc.) for free repair. Rather than leaving and returning later to pick up their item, attendees sit with a Repair Coach who explains their approach to fixing the item. The Coach and attendee work collaboratively to try to fix the item, so that attendees learn more about fixing and hopefully feel empowered to try to fix other things. Repair Fairs keep useful items out of the landfill and spread knowledge and love of reuse and repair!

How do I register an item to be fixed?

Pre-register items that you would like to have fixed at a Repair Fair by finding the event you would like to attend at reusealliance.org/events. Forget to pre-register? They also take walk-ins!

How do I volunteer as a Repair Coach?

Volunteer as a Repair Coach! Don’t feel comfortable fixing, but still want to help out? There are also volunteer opportunities to help with check-in and check-out! Fill out the volunteer intake form at reusealliance.org/rf-volunteer or email volunteer@reusealliance.org.
