Seabrook, TX: Lakewood Yacht Club and the Bay Access Foundation welcome young sailors to register for the spring sailing classes starting March 11, 2023.
Classes are available for kids ages 6 through 16, with no experience required. The curriculum includes sailing and trimming at different points of sail, rigging and unrigging, and having fun in the boats. Optimist boats will be used for the “Learn to Sail” program, and FJ boats will be used for the “Sailing Saturdays” program. Lakewood Yacht Club will provide the boats.
At the end of the session, parents will receive a written evaluation of their sailor's progress.
The Learn to Sail course fee is $180 for LYC members and $300 for non-members.
The Sailing Saturday fee is $350/for members and $600/for non-members.
Under the direction of dedicated coaches, LYC’s youth sailing program is designed to develop outstanding sailors and young individuals, maintain the safety of all participants, promote ethical behavior, and teach life-long lessons about character, teamwork, responsibility, and respect for others.
Achieving prominence as one of the top yacht club programs in the U.S., our youth sailors (the Seahorses) participate in programs that offer year-round fun for member and non-member sailors. Aspiring sailors can learn how to safely enjoy leisure sailing or compete at national and international levels. Some of the LYC's young sailors have gone on to become Olympic and World Champions.
