We are also looking forward to hosting Milena Braticevic, CIHS alum, for an experiential workshop in May. More CIHS alumni are doing amazing work with their degrees. Thomas Brophy, CIHS President, and Elizabeth Krasnoff, Research Faculty, will present at the annual Tucson Science of Consciousness Conference. We are delighted to report that Sean Esbjörn-Hargens, Dean of Integral Education and Program Director made his debut on “New Thinking Allowed” with Jeffrey Mishlove.
California Institute for Human Science Establishes Laboratory for Consciousness Science

Our Laboratory for Consciousness Science has been launched and it will lead the charge of research surrounding consciousness-related science. The Laboratory is directed by Jeffery A. Martin, newly appointed professor and Dean of Research Supervision.
“The California Institute for Human Science is founded upon internal and external discovery,
and research is a vital part of the university’s academic programming,” Martin said. “The addition of the Laboratory for Consciousness Science will give our students more opportunities to play an active role in integrative health, and by facilitating this discussion and learning, students will gain a greater understanding of the mind-body-spirit connection.”

The Laboratory for Consciousness Science features state-of-the-art technologies from Transcranial Brain Stimulation Devices to other stimulatory devices that will help students better understand and explore states of consciousness. The facility joins CIHS’ Subtle Energy Research Laboratory, further advancing the University’s mission of promoting progressive integrative health.

President Brophy noted “At the California Institute for Human Science, it’s our role to help students come into union with their mind, body and spirit, which isn’t a priority in today’s mainstream health education.” He added “At CIHS, we know the undeniable value of integrative health, and the more we know about consciousness science, the better equipped we are to heal ourselves and the world."

The Secrets of Persistent Awakening: Lessons from the Largest Scientific Research Project on Persistent Non-Symbolic Experience
Wednesday, May 4th, 6pm
Featuring Dr. Jeffery Martin

In this talk we'll cover the unconscious choice that most people are making that is dramatically limiting their life, discuss two possible alternatives, and go into detail on the most powerfully transformative of the two. We'll examine what science has learned over the last 20 years, the myths it has exposed, and potential that can be realized. You'll learn a simple formula that you can start using right away to make progress, and what is most important for you to keep in mind as you begin to realize success with it.

Jeffery Martin is an academic researcher, serial entrepreneur, technologist, and investor who specializes in advancing the highest forms of human wellbeing. For over a decade he has conducted the largest international study on Fundamental Wellbeing, which includes the types of consciousness commonly known as: enlightenment, nonduality, the peace that passeth understanding, unitive experience, and hundreds of other terms. This resulted in the first reliable, cross-cultural and pan-tradition classification system for these types of experience. More recently, he has used this research to make systems available to help people obtain profound psychological benefits in a rapid, secular, reliable, and safe way.

Jeffery is currently the Director for the Center for the Study of Non-Symbolic Consciousness, a Research Professor and Director at the Transformative Technology Lab in Silicon Valley, Dean of Research at the California Institute of Human Science where he also founded and directs the Laboratory for Consciousness Science, and a Lecturer and Adjunct professor at Stanford University. He was formerly the William James Professor of Consciousness Studies and Dean of Research at Sofia University and a visiting professor in the School of Design at Hong Kong Polytechnic University, among other appointments.
Experiential Workshop: Building Mental Resilience in Uncertain Times
with CIHS alum, Milena Braticevic, PhD
Wednesday, May 11th, 12-1pm PDT

Join us for this experiential workshop to build sustained mental resilience and improve ability to manage a high degree of uncertainty and change. Based on a prevention-oriented paradigm of integral health, the workshop will help you learn ways to develop the mind, prevent anxiety and burnout, and improve creativity and collaboration. The session will include experiential exercises to help you integrate and apply knowledge in practical ways. This workshop is a unique opportunity to attend an introductory version of a longer, 4-week mental resilience program that will be offered in the Fall of 2022.

In this workshop you will learn to:
1. Adopt an integral view to handle a higher degree of uncertainty and change.
2. Apply mindset strategies, process orientation, cognitive-behavioral and emotional regulation tools.
3. Access higher levels of consciousness to solve complex problems.
4. Systematically increase energy levels to optimize performance and prevent burnout.
5. Activate the relaxation response and improve HRV for physical and mental wellbeing.
6. Build resilient relationships through improved communication and collaboration.

mind-body-spirit connection!
CIHS Alumni, Francesca Paretta
Francesca Paretta graduated from CIHS with a MA in Integral Health. She's currently running a thriving Holistic Doula and Mentoring business where she incorporates her studies of the subtle energetic world. Her Master’s thesis investigated the history of birth care in the United States, in which she developed the Integral Model of Holistic Perinatal Care - an approach to perinatal services that integrates obstetrics and midwifery within humanistic and client-centered care and advocacy. We sat down with Francesca to talk about her experience at CIHS and how it has informed her work as a holistic doula and mentor.

"I experienced incredible growth during my education at CIHS. It’s a kind of growth that happens on a multitude of layers – personal and spiritual, as well as academic and professional. All of this came at a very synchronistic time in my personal life, where a lot of deep purging and illumination of the shadow psyche took place. I was able to use my education in Integral Health and Psychology to both observe and navigate my healing journey, all the while drawing connection to how my microcosm reflected the nature of reality on the macro level. More specifically, my education at CIHS revealed to me the inherent, integral nature of human existence, and of consciousness overall. I’ve found a great deal of purpose in my professional life as a doula by understanding the subtle energetic world – how the mental and emotional bodies overlay and inform the physical body and vice versa. This innate dynamic is critical in guiding birthing women and parents and takes childbirth out of the hyper-medical model of care and returns it to a naturalistic, humanistic experience. CIHS Participating in 2022 The Science of Consciousness (TSC)

April 18- April 22nd

CIHS is participating this week at TSC, the world’s largest, longest-running, and premier interdisciplinary conference addressing the fundamental questions regarding consciousness, the brain, reality, and existence. At this year’s TSC, organized by the Center for Consciousness Studies at the University of Arizona and co-sponsored by the University of Michigan, President Thomas Brophy will present his research on the ontology of the problem of consciousness in a concurrent session, and he will chair a session, “Healing and Altered States.” Thomas plans to meet with funders and donors of the conference to propose ongoing collaboration with TSC and CIHS. He believes that collaboration could lead to an annual focused conference at CIHS as well as financial support for CIHS’ programs in consciousness studies. Elizabeth Krasnoff, CIHS Research Faculty, will present a paper at a plenary session, "Altered States of Consciousness”. Jeffrey Mishlove, who was featured at the CIHS special anniversary event last month, will participate in a session on consciousness and nonlocality. Deepak Chopra, Associated Scholar at CIHS, will join a panel on Plant Medicine, lead a morning meditation, and participate in a public dialog, “Mystery of Existence.”

Thomas noted “I hope that our presence at the conference will attract presenters to CIHS to offer classes in our degree programs as well as workshops in our Center for Lifelong Learning. The remarkable networking opportunities at the conference can greatly support CIHS in its mission of being a leading university for the emerging conversation on science of consciousness.”

Integral Noetic Sciences program director Sean Esbjorn-Hargens' fascinating interview with Jeffrey Mishlove's New Thinking Allowed

Sean Esbjörn-Hargens, is Dean of Integral Education at the CIHS and Program Director of the MA/PHD program in Integral Noetic Sciences which has a concentration in Anomalous Studies.

In this fascinating interview with Jeffrey Mishlove, he explains that non-human intelligence can be thought of as natural to the earth (faeries and elementals), from outer space (i.e., ETs), or from celestial realms (angels and devas). His "integral" approach involves taking into consideration the huge spectrum of possibilities as evidenced in the academic, esoteric, and UFOlogical literature. He maintains that no single approach is sufficient to capture the complexity of the phenomena.

Jeffrey Mishlove, host of “New Thinking Allowed” and friend of CIHS, is the author of The Roots of Consciousness, Psi Development Systems, and The PK Man. Between 1986 and 2002, he hosted and co-produced the original “Thinking Allowed” public television series. In 1980, he received a doctoral diploma in "parapsychology" awarded by the University of California, Berkeley. He is also the Grand Prize winner of the 2021 Bigelow Institute Essay Competition on the best evidence for postmortem human survival.
