2020 Annual Report A year of unprecedented growth for GA In a season filled with so much loss, GA was blessed with so many gains. In 2020, we added nine new programs and continued to amplify our outreach from Homestead to Fort Lauderdale. We added 27 new full-time positions to our staffing roster and increased our annual revenue by 14%. We expanded our reach to serve the most underserved by adding homeless veterans to our target population and increased our trauma-focused efforts by adding six more therapists to our team. We built. BLOC Celebrates Black History Month On February 24, our leaders at Building Leaders of Character (BLOC) hosted an event in honor of Black History month where middle school students were offered a learning experience about the past and present struggles towards equality in our nation. This included an arts activity where students came up with ways that they can become heroes within our community. They also got to meet with our local heroes, the Miami Police Department, who shared their experiences and spoke on how overcoming oppression can be as simple as staying in school. We give thanks to @MiamiPD, who handed out ice cream and arts and crafts to further motivate the youth participants.

EFFECT Trains Women in Construction! One of the programs that GA added in 2020 was Encouraging Full Female Engagement in Construction Training (EFFECT). The program provides non-traditional skills training in the construction & building trade to prepare women, 18 and older living in Broward County, for careers in apprenticeships and non-traditional occupations for women. Construction is a trade that employs mostly men. It is also has the potential for better pay and career advancement, which is why it is critical that women are given equal access to the same opportunity. Through EFFECT, women will have a path to a free diploma course in construction, coupled with onsite child-care support, navigational case management, work readiness and job placement support. Promoting equal opportunity in South Florida’s construction industry will provide greater economic security for women and their families and will benefit the community by taking full advantage of all citizens’ skills. Through EFFECT, GA also provides technical assistance to train employers, unions, industries and apprenticeship programs to embrace the recruitment, training, and retention of women in apprentice-able occupations and nontraditional occupations. EFFECT is having two information sessions March 8 (International Women’s Day) and March 22. This program is funded by the US Department of Labor’s Employment and Training Administration.
