New Hampshire Child Well-Being Data Hub Has Released Their Annual Update

The NHChildData.org website presents data on a variety of indicators of child and family well-being. They have just announced the release of their annual update to the data hub, which allows users to explore and analyze trends in child well-being with the most up-to-date data available.

  • Did you know: family income in New Hampshire is higher than the national average- but single-parent households don't come close to reaching the median household income.

  • New Hampshire has a childcare problem, and it's not just due to a shortage: the cost of childcare for families with two children is 25% of income, and families must get on waitlists for childcare long before their child is born.

  • Did you know that NH childcare workers make less than half the statewide average income?

  • Families with children face challenges in New Hampshire, but there are positive indicators of children's well-being in the state. Child poverty is the lowest it's ever been. Children are likely to be insured. Rates of child maltreatment have gone down, and our child population is more racially diverse.

Introduction & Overview of ERS and SACERS-U

The Environment Rating Scales (ERS) are observational tools that assess process quality of child care programs. This virtual training provides an introduction and overview of the ERS and the School Age Care Environment Rating Scale-Updated (SACERS-U) tool. We will examine the benefits of using the tool for children and for programs. Participants will practice how to use the SACERS-U tool in an out-of-school time (OST) program. This training is intended for programs with school age children in OST. This training fulfills the required Granite Steps for Quality (GSQ) ERS Training for the SACERS Learning Environment Standard Rubric.

Grant Information

Community Literacy Grant

In-kind support of volunteer time and books to New Hampshire and Vermont community organizations, school -based programs, OST programs, and social service providers to instill a love of reading in school-aged children. The purpose of this program is to engage students up to age 12 in interactive reading presentations, coach parents and caregivers about storytelling strategies, and reinforce the importance of reading to children.

CLiF provides inspiring literacy activities, support, and new, high-quality books to children in under-resourced communities who are at risk of growing up with low literacy skills. At each Community Literacy grant-sponsored event, a CLiF presenter talks with children about the joys of reading and gives a fun and interactive storytelling presentation. After the presentation, each child chooses two brand-new books to keep.

CLiF provides an onsite library to each organization so children have even more access to high-quality books. They also offer a parent/caregiver seminar sharing the importance of reading with children and modeling storytelling strategies to support caregivers who may not have strong literacy skills or may not be fluent English speakers.
