CHAMBER UPDATES | FEBRUARY 25, 2022
Chamber Members,

As I paused to consider my message this month, my reflection was back to a newsletter that I wrote on behalf of my college alumni class. I was filling in because Kris' mother had suddenly passed away. Back in the day, alumni provide us an update on weddings, births and new jobs. Some classmates chose to send detailed responses, some chose a quick quip, while others decided not to provide an update at all. It was a chance to stay connected with those we had spent so much time with at Illinois Wesleyan University. I thought that I'd be filling in for a month or two while Kris helped her father get her life in order; it wasn't until two years later that Kris returned to take back her role.

Each month that I sat down to compile the newsletter (much the way I am this morning), I had to come up with a way to introduce the class news, put the submissions in a readable form, then wrap it up by asking for those "lost alumni" to submit something for the following month. My college class was around 350, many of whom I stay in touch with today. You may have had a similar experience in college or even high school. By now you are asking, "Where is Dave going with his message this time?" My words of wisdom today are these...

In our college years, we shared a foundational part of our lives and bonded at a time when we came together for both individual and common goals. We each had our own major and GPA to keep up, but we may have been a part of a special club or athletic team. We may have individually wanted to land that best job, but were also involved in a fraternity/sorority/dormitory that had campus pride as a unit.

Today, the Colerain Chamber of Commerce is in a unique position for each of us as we foundationally build this chamber one relationship at a time. You can choose to attend an event where you might meet a new business connection, submit a marketing piece for distribution to the chamber membership, or you might decide to sit on the sidelines and simply pay your membership dues. I hope each of you finds value somewhere within the Colerain Chamber and that you WANT to Connect with others, Support area businesses, and Celebrate as we've done at the Awards Dinner; however, the choice is yours.

Frankly, what I see happing is that friendships are being built through Murder Mystery Dinners, Networking with a Twist, TEAMS efforts, Community Giveback Day, and all the other opportunities presented each month. However, I also see individuals who don't recognize what a wonderful thing they have in front of them at this point in time. I am glad that I experienced college to its fullest and didn't sit in my dorm room by myself. My hope is that each of you will find a place to plug-in and find value in building business relationships across a dynamic community. I'm thankful to have found Colerain and look forward to so much success for each of your respective businesses.

Who doesn't like a wonderful happy hour with a twist? In this case, we will be mixing a whole lot of networking with a cocktail or two, stirring in a pinch of education about succession planning and business continuity and adding a dash of attendee participation.

This will prove to be a must attend event for all levels of leadership in your organization. We anticipate about a 20-30 minute program led by experts Tom Gottlieb, Quinn Wang, and Jim Diebold which will prove to be more exciting than that phone call you took (or maybe avoided) from the salesperson wanting you to extend your auto warranty, plus you'll get to rub elbows with the best and brightest across Colerain.
