Prep Academy Scholars Prepare for Independent School

The Independent School Placement process has concluded for our Prep Academy Scholars and we are proud to share the independent schools where our Scholars will be attending in the fall!

Prep Academy Scholars have one more session of summer programming before they embark on their journeys at their new schools! Congratulations to all!

Setting Up Our Scholars for Success

Our middle and high school students are eager to finish the year strong after a successful semester of study abroad programs, applying for summer opportunities, and participating in several REACH Prep workshops. Two of our recent workshops are featured below:

7th and 8th grade Scholars participated in a Values and Identity Workshop. The Scholars were encouraged to consider how societal, school and familial values compare to their own. The conversation also included topics such as beauty standards and living authentically whether at home, school, or with friends.

9th and 10th grade Scholars and their parents were invited to an Introduction to Affording College Workshop. This session covered the financial aid process and outlined how families can begin preparing for the expected cost of college. REACH Prep supports families throughout the college process, but starting the conversation while students are still in the first half of high school allows time for parents to plan ahead.

College and Career Programming

We recently hosted a virtual workshop titled, ‘How Fearless Women Lead’, for our college-aged Scholars. The panelists spoke to our Scholars about their educational and professional paths, what it means to work in their industries including the day-to-day, the importance of networking and mentoring, how their college experiences impacted their career goals, and the value of perseverance and believing in oneself.

Offering impactful, accessible, opportunities to network and learn ensures our Scholars have the tools needed to be successful when they embark on their own career paths.

The panel included one Board Member, two Associate Board Members, and one REACH Prep Alumni, and it was moderated by REACH Prep Alumni, Sahara Lake, who is a Campaign and Community Manager at the Tory Burch Foundation.

Building Community with our Families

In May, we were thrilled to host the REACH Prep Community Potluck for the first time since 2019!

This event is a beloved tradition and an opportunity for every member of the REACH Prep community to come together. We were joined by 150 Scholars, parents, and siblings who enjoyed connecting with other REACH Prep families.

Throughout the event, everyone enjoyed the variety of food, participated in games, took photos with their families and peers, . The Scholars who just graduated high school came up to share where they will be attending school in the fall.

REACH Prep Alumni Cooking up Success

REACH Prep Alumni Ayna Ramseur-Moore, Cohort 16, is a Manufacturing Engineer at GE Appliances. With offices right across the street from REACH Prep, Ayna invited REACH Prep staff to tour the GE CoCreate space they have been building for the past year.

On the tour, Ayna shared insights about her role and some of what’s been happening

behind the scenes at CoCreate. Once the project is complete, we look forward to taking Prep Academy and Middle School Scholars there for learning activities.

A highlight of the visit was getting to make personal pizzas in their table-top pizza ovens! Ayna demonstrated how the machines work and explained the unique technology that allows them to reach extremely high temperatures and cook without creating smoke.

It was a treat to visit Ayna in her element and the team enjoyed learning about her job. We are always eager to learn about our Alumni’s career paths!
