ROC closed for the winter season

The ROC ended its 2022-2023 season with a splash! Thank you to everyone who came out for the Puddle Jump on March 26, including Mayor Margaret Quirk, Councillor Lee Dale, Councillor Dave Neeson and former Councillor Mike Waddington. A big thank to you all guests, staff and instructors for another great season at the ROC. Easter holiday long weekend

The Easter long weekend is almost here. A reminder for residents that the Civic Centre will be closed from April 7 to April 10. For after-hours emergencies about animal control, roads, water or wastewater, call 905-476-4301 and follow the prompts. Recycling and waste collection will continue as regularly scheduled for the week of April 10. Easter Swim

Join the Easter Bunny and hop on over to the Georgina Leisure Pool on Saturday, April 8, for our annual in-water Easter Egg Hunt. 

  • Public swim - 11 a.m. - 12:30 p.m. and 1 p.m. to 3:30 p.m.

There is a swim for all ages with games and an Easter egg hunt in the pool. Pre-registration is strongly recommended.

Georgina's leash-free dog parks

Heading to one of Georgina's leash-free dog parks? A reminder to please keep your dog leashed until you are inside the park. They are a great place for dogs to get together and play. The Town reminds everyone that dogs can only be off leash on public property in designated off-leash areas. The Town has two leash-free dog parks located at 26815 Civic Centre Rd. and 685 Lake Drive S.

Spring cleaning in Georgina

Yard waste

Spring includes the return to yard work and yard waste pickup. Collection resumes every two weeks beginning the week of April 3 until the end of November. Check the waste calendar, download the free Recycle Coach app or visit georgina.ca/WasteandRecycling for details. Street sweeping

Watch for street sweeping to begin in early April, weather permitting. This annual cleaning service removes winter sand from Town roads. If you have sand on your driveway or sidewalk, sweep it onto the edge of the road for removal by the street sweeper. Avoid parking on Town streets during this time to allow sweepers to clean the roadway

Curbside Giveaway Days

Clear out the clutter in your home! Curbside Giveaway Days begin April 26 and run monthly until October. Put your unwanted items at the curb from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. Other residents/neighbours can then take these items free of charge. Any unclaimed items must be removed by 5 p.m. and can only be put to the curb on the selected dates.

Pitch-In week

April 17 to 23 is Pitch-In Week across Canada. Residents can participate by helping to clean up areas in the community as individuals, families or groups. The Town will provide gloves and bags which can be picked up at the Civic Centre or any branch of Georgina Public Library. Contact Service Georgina at 905-476-4301, ext. 3001 or [email protected] once waste is collected so staff can dispose of it appropriately.

Mosquito spray

2023 Mosquito program notice of ground and aerial larvicide application for the control of larval mosquitoes for nuisance control

From April to July, GDG Environnement Ltée. will apply a biological larvicide by air and ground to stagnant water to control larval mosquitoes that impact the residents in Georgina, east of Weirs Sideroad. The applications are weather dependent and are likely to occur closer to April 15. The program will use multiple applications of the biological larvicides. The granular will be applied by helicopter and the liquid by backpack applicators
