APRIL IS NATIONAL GARDENING MONTH

A time to celebrate the joys of gardening and the many benefits it provides.

ATTRACTING POLLINATORS TO YOUR GARDEN

Every garden needs pollinators! Without pollinators, flowers would be very limited, producing fruit would be very difficult and vegetables would be hard to come by.

Create a pollinator-friendly garden or container arrangement with their favorite plants.

Bees buzz for: Cone Flower, Sedum, Lavender, Zinnia, Foxgloves, Heliotrope, Cosmos.

Butterflies love: Agastache, Fuschia, Lobelia, Penstemon, Lavender, Milkweed, Salvia, Caryopteris.

Hummingbirds flutter for: Phlox, Aster, Echinacea, Hot Lips Salvia, Lantana, Buddleia, Black and Blue Salvia, Coral Bells.

FEED YOUR SOIL

ADD SOME ZIP TO YOUR PLANTING BEDS

Gardener & Bloome Soil Building Compost is a nutrient-rich, organic compost containing forest humus, chicken manure, bat guano, worm castings, kelp meal, and gypsum. Cover the soil surface 1-3 inches deep around your plants and trees, avoiding mounding the material directly up against the trunk. Mulching with this product helps reduce watering needs while adding valuable nutrients.

TIME TO FERTILIZE!

Get a head start by fertilizing your trees, shrubs, and perennials. We recommend:

FERTILOME TREE & SHRUB for all of your landscape plants. COLD CLIMATE is a great organic option as well.

For your fruit trees add DOWN TO EARTH FRUIT TREE 6-2-4.

FERTILOME AZALEA AND RHODODENDRON FOOD is perfect for your acid-loving plants such as azaleas, rhododendrons, and berries.

Perennials love an application of slow release OSMOCOTE (14-14-14) to start spring and ensure beautiful foliage and flowers all season.

We continue to expand the organic fertilizer options carried at Landsystems. Stop in and see what's new.

NIP THE CREEPY CRAWLIES IN THE BUD WITH HORTICULTURAL OIL!!!

Horticultural oil is a great option for controlling insects on flowers, fruits, vegetables, shrubs, perennials, trees and more. Can be used in both the dormant and growing season. Fertilome "Green" Label Horticultural Oil is made up of 96% highly refined Canola Oil and is OMRI certified for organic use . It works by suffocating insects and their eggs on the nesting branches. CARING FOR YOUR GRASSES

You have enjoyed the beauty of your golden grasses throughout the winter months. Keep your grasses beautiful year after year by pruning the old stalks NOW. Cut the grasses back to the new growth which is just peeking through. A hedge shear works great! Don't forget to fertilize with Osmocote (14-14-14).

HEALTHISTRAW

All-natural & clean Gardenstraw helps conserve water, suppress weeds, improve soil health and protect plants.

GREENEST LAWN ON THE BLOCK

Make your neighbors green with envy by using LANDSYSTEMS' SPRING-BLEND 20-8-12-6 for the first application on your lawn. Formulated by Landsystems Nursery and packaged by Redman Fertilizers. Spring Blend was created especially for Central Oregon with 67% quick-release nitrogen and 3% iron to green-up your lawn quickly.

To keep that lawn looking great from spring to fall, enrich the soil with SOIL ACTIVATOR. A highly concentrated soil conditioner. This product contains humic acids which enhance nutrient uptake, stimulate soil microbial life, help break down thatch build up and encourage root development.

A CUT ABOVE

All your work can be thrown out the window if you don't ensure your method of mowing is done correctly. Make sure the blades are as sharp as possible. Pay attention to the 1/3rd rule, only cut the top 3rd of the grass blade when mowing. What about aerating and dethatching? Does my lawn really need it? YES!

Removing plugs provides space for roots to grow and water to penetrate more thoroughly. Ideally, aeration should be preformed yearly.

Dethatching your lawn involves removing the layers of dead and decaying matter that builds up between the soil and the grass, preventing water, air, and important nutrients from reaching the roots. Dethaching helps promote healthier, greener grass

Many fruits and berries do very well in Central Oregon. Make your landscape edible by adding berries and fruit trees in your garden.
