"Tick Days" Documentary Screening with Larry Dapsis

Larry Dapsis, the  Deer Tick Project Coordinator and Entomologist with the  Cape Cod Cooperative Extension in Barnstable, r eturns to the Middleborough Public Library on Wed., April 11 at 6:30 p.m. to screen a documentary about ticks made by independent filmmaker Marnie Crawford. Crawford tagged along with Dapsis, a Middleborough resident, for a year filming him and his efforts to fight the pervasive health crisis of tick-borne diseases. He 'll discuss how and why they made the 20-minute film and talk about his personal experiences, then open up the program for audience questions.  

This program is free of charge and open to the public.
The Garden Tourist with Author/Gardener Jana Milbocker

J oin us on Wed., April 25 at 3:00 p.m. for a fascinating visual presentation and discussion of author Jana Milbocker's new book, The Garden Tourist.  A question-and-answer session will follow the program.  The author also will sell and sign copies of her book.

The Garden Tourist  is a travel guide for weekend gardeners, landscape professionals and vacation travelers, covering New England, New York's Hudson River Valley, eastern Pennsylvania, and New Jersey.
Milbocker is an avid gardener, garden designer, lecturer and writer.  She is the owner of Enchanted Gardens, a landscape design firm in Holliston.
No registration is required and there is no charge to attend this program, brought to you thanks to the support of the Friends of the Middleborough Public Library.
Teen Aromatherapy Workshop

Join us on Sat., May 12 from 1:00 to 2:30 p.m. as instructor Kim Larkin of Klassic Kreations guides teens in crafting and assembling an aromatherapy dream pillow, bath salts, and soaps.   She'll highlight the history and health benefits of essential oils and healing botanicals.  These "scent-sational" creations make a terrific gift for Mother's Day!

This free program is for youth in grades 5-12.

April Vacation Programs

Tues., April 17, 11:00 a.m.
Whale Program with Carol "Krill" Carson
Ms. Carson, from the New England Coastal Wildlife Alliance, will teach kids about whales in this interactive program. She'll read from her book "My Friend Salt" and they'll create an origami whale to take home. There will also be items on display pertaining to whales. Best for kids ages preschool to early elementary. Registration is required, as we are limited to 30 participants.

Tues., April 17, 4:00 p.m.
It's a BLOCK PARTY! Lego building bricks and DUPLOS will be available for kids of all ages. 
Wed., April 18, 6:30 p.m., Town Hall   
"Beauty & the Beast," presented by the Hampstead Stage Company 

The Hampstead Stage Company (HSC) proudly presents "Beauty & the Beast," based on the classic by Gabrielle-Suzanne Barbot de Villeneuve. In this heartwarming, yet humorous, tale, discover the power of being yourself and what it means to listen to your heart.  This performance is best suited for ages 5 and up. 

HSC is a national professional touring theatre company based in New Hampshire. Each year they perform more than 2,000 shows across the country in various venues, including theatres, schools and libraries.

No registration or ticketing is necessary.

Music with Sarah Program
Get ready to participate in interactive music and activities! Miss Sarah will bring instruments, scarves, etc. and will give kids the chance to play along with her band. 

Best suited for ages 5 and under; siblings are welcome. No registration is required.  
Preschool Storylabs 
Special Guest in April   -- Miss Marilyn!

Preschool Storylabs combine books with science, art, math and lots of hands-on activities. Kids ages 3-6,  along with their caregivers and siblings, are invited to join us on several Wednesdays in April at 10:30 a.m.
April 4 -- Miss Marilyn will present a program on eggs - - do you like yours scrambled, fried or hard-boiled?
April 11 --Miss Marilyn will be talking about threes and triangles.

April 18 and 25 -- No Storylabs programs
Preschool Storylabs combine STEAM (science, technology, engineering, arts, and mathematics) with stories, songs, games, art projects, science experiments and more.  After the 30-minute formal program, enjoy time to socialize and have a snack in the room.  These programs are free, with no advance sign-up required.

Cherry Blossom Month
Month in April

Mon., April 2 at 10:30 a.m. -- Carol Carver from Self Help, Inc.'s Coordinated Family and Community Engagement program invites preschoolers and their caregivers to celebrate Cherry Blossom Month through stories, songs and other activities.  Space is limited.  Call or stop by the Library to register.
Our Puppet Friends are  Spruced Up
and Ready for Spring

Put your hands together and clap!  Your favorite puppet friends will be coming out of hibernation this month, and will be clean and well-rested after their winter break. They're here waiting to be taken home, played with and loved. 

Your Favorite Programs for Children and Families

Regular children's programs continue throughout the month of April, with the exception of April Vacation Week. Check the Library's calendar for specific dates and special events.

Mondays from 4:00 p.m. - 6:20 p.m.Reading to Miss Marilyn's Spaniels.  Sign up for a 20-minute time slot and read to a therapy dog in a relaxed and non-judgmental setting.  Call or stop by the Library to register.  Please note -- Sessions will be available April 2 and April 9 ONLY this month, after which the program will be on hiatus until July and August when our Summer Reading Program starts again.

Tuesdays from 4:00 p.m. - 5:00 p.m.   Lego-mania! Come build with the Library's Legos and Duplos.  All ages are welcome; no registration required.  
Thursdays at 10:15 a.m.   Mother Goose on the Loose. A lapsit program for babies birth- 18 months and their caregiver(s) including 20 minutes of songs, stories and rhymes.  After the formal program there is time to stay and play or socialize.  No registration required. Please note -- MGOL will be offered on April 5 and April 12 ONLY this month.

Thursdays at 11:15 a.m.   Wiggles & Giggles.  B est for children 18  months to 3 years of age and their caregiver(s).  Together we enjoy lots of music and movement activities plus stories and more!  After the formal program you can stay and play together.  No registration required.

This Month's Marvelous Museum Pass

The Buttonwood Park Zoo (BPZ) in New Bedford  features animals and 30 exhibits, including: elephants, bison, mountain lions, bears, s eals, and farm animals. BPZ is accredited by the  Association of Zoos and Aquariums  and has been called "one of the finest small zoos in the United States" by that organization.

Each pass admits 4 people for free. Remember you may pick up your pass any time during the three days before your visit and return it by closing time the day after you use it. 

PLEASE NOTE: Starting May 1, 2018, Buttonwood Zoo will no longer offer or honor Library passes for Mondays, Saturdays, February or April School Vacation Weeks or holidays such as  
Mother's/Father's Days, Memorial Day, or Halloween.
