Greetings!
Spring is blossoming all around and so is Travel!!!
Cruise Lines International Association (CLIA), the global cruise industry's trade group, said in a press statement about the CDC change: “The decision by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) to lower the Travel Health Notice threat level for cruise ships is a step in the right direction and recognizes the leadership and effectiveness of the cruise sector’s health and safety protocols that are unmatched by virtually any other commercial setting.
“Cruise ships have medical, isolation and quarantine facilities on site, implement extensive response plans using private shoreside resources, and have created an environment where almost every single person is fully vaccinated.
“As a result, cases of COVID-19 are very low with the vast majority mild or asymptomatic—making cruise unequaled in its multi-layered approach to effectively mitigating COVID-19."
Mask and vaccination requirements continue to be re-evaluated as shown in the following notice from Princess Cruises with similar modifications with other cruise lines.
“Effective with cruises departing Mar 1:
Masks on board will be recommended but not required. There may, however, be certain venues and events where masks will be required.
We're now pleased to welcome children under 5 (who are not yet eligible for vaccination). They will be excluded from the 95% calculation for operating vaccinated cruises as defined by the CDC for voyages departing from the U.S. All existing protocols for unvaccinated guests will continue to apply.”
In the spate of all the good news attendant with the travel industry, we must comment on the horrific events unravelling in Ukraine. The impacts to the people of that country cannot be underestimated as they suffer the atrocities of war. Our hearts go out to those proud citizens who are fighting for some semblance of democracy.
Clearly, there are also impacts to the travel industry—longer flight times to avoid Russian airspace and cancelled/revised port destinations to name a couple. These inconveniences, however, pale in comparison to the suffering of the Ukrainian people. We hope you join us in prayers for their safety and survival.
While travel to some parts of the world is either not possible or not recommend, the rest of the planet is opening at a rapid pace. Restrictions are being modified or lifted completely.
So, where in the world do you want to go?
