CAP Grantee Spotlight

Dryden Intergenerational Band & Chorus

Building Community Through Music Across the Ages

This month's CAP grantee spotlight is The Dryden Intergenerational Band and Chorus!

They provide a fun, free, and accessible music experience for people of all ages and musical abilities! Join them for the summer to practice and perform, while making friends across the ages.

Dryden Intergenerational Band and Chorus was founded in 1996 by Jody Earle to provide music for the Dryden Bicentennial celebration. They were so well received that they've been making music ever since. Last season, they had performers from age 12 to 90 and represented 16 rural area communities!

When talking to members of the musical group, people most often express how incredibly happy being part of this group made them feel. Being able to participate in this was said to have helped immensely with people's depression and anxiety. Making music truly soothes the soul, especially when judgement isn't present; and that is what this organization does well.

CAP's GAP Grant supports artistic programs open to the Tompkins County general public. Grants are made possible by New York State Council on the Arts with the support of the Office of the Governor and the New York State Legislature.

Funds are available statewide to make exemplary arts programming available to geographically, ethnically, and racially diverse segments of the State's population.

April's CAP ArtSpace Group Exhibit

Ithaca Trans Center

Trans*formations

Gallery Night! April 3, 5pm-8pm

Trans*formations is an art exhibit featuring local trans experiences, trans challenges, and trans joy. In this country, at this time, creating space to uplift and center trans, nonbinary and genderqueer voices is imperative and essential. Trans*formations uses art as a tool for social change, as a medium for collective voice, and as a way to collaborate and build community. This exhibit is coming out of the collective energy and grassroots organizing of a small group of local trans, nonbinary and genderqueer people living in the area who are working together to start a Trans Center in Ithaca.

To make a living as an artist, you have to get your work in front of people who want to buy it from you. Art fairs and markets are one of the best ways to do that, but how on earth do you find them, what do you do there, and how do you make it worth your time and effort? Should you even bother?

Learn the basic strategies for finding art markets, setting up a good booth, and actually getting other human beings to spend money on your work.

How do I get my project supported? Let’s dive into a variety of fundraising options for creatives, including where to find grants and how to determine if they are a good fit for you and your work. We'll talk about earned income, individual giving, crowdfunding, and look at grants made for NYS artists. Participants will spend time exploring which options are a fit for their projects, and leave with a sense of direction. Anna Warfield is a Binghamton based artist whose work is predominantly text-based fiber works that engage with the body, unlearning, communication, and identity. She has worked with a number of statewide organizations as panelist, workshop leader and consultant. Learn more at AnnaWarfield.com
