The Caledonia Nordic Ski Club’s current bylaws were last updated in 2011, and the club has grown significantly since then. In addition, the new Societies Act came into effect in 2016, with further amendments introduced in 2023. As a result, our existing bylaws are no longer compliant with the Act and may no longer fully serve the needs of our members.
On June 28, 2023, the CNSC Board of Directors held an extraordinary meeting of members to vote on a revised set of bylaws. While the vote to ratify the new bylaws did not pass, a resolution was approved to form a member-led bylaw review committee.
This committee — consisting of Tim Roots, Dave Snadden, Barry Booth, Dave Nelson, and Gretchen Prystawik — was formed in 2023 and worked under a clear terms of reference through the winter of 2025. Their work included a detailed review of:
- The current CNSC bylaws
- The BC Societies Act and its Model Bylaws
- The proposed (but unsuccessful) 2023 revisions
- Bylaws from other Nordic ski clubs
- Other relevant governance resources
An initial draft of updated bylaws was presented to the Board and, after minor adjustments, has now been posted for member review here:
🔗 Draft CNSC Updated Bylaws for Member Review
Note: Revisions are highlighted in blue, with accompanying notes explaining the rationale behind each suggestion.
We are now asking members to provide feedback through the following form:
📝 Feedback Form
The form will remain open until June 30, 2025. After that, the Board will review all feedback, revise the bylaws accordingly, and share a final draft in advance of a ratification vote at the October 22, 2025 Annual General Meeting.
If the updated bylaws are successfully ratified, the current Board recommends a follow-up process to modernize the club’s policies and standard operating procedures, which would be advanced by the newly elected 2025–26 Board.
Thank you for helping shape the future governance of your club.
