A Word From Mark

Dear Friends,

Throughout April, we honor Child Abuse Prevention Month. According to the Child Advocacy Center, statistics reveal a distressing reality: 1 in 10 children will endure sexual abuse before reaching the age of 18. Even more concerning is the estimate that for every reported case of child abuse, two additional instances go unreported.

Considering this urgent need, our community team is actively working to enact positive changes throughout Orange County. We are dedicated to education, outreach, and providing support, which is why we will be hosting over 15 booths across the region. Our advocates will be sharing vital information and resources, with the goal of empowering individuals and communities to effectively identify, prevent, and address child abuse.

We know our outreach is made possible through the generosity of our donors and corporate sponsors. On April 27th, we are excited to host our Annual Ball – Cirque du Familie, an enchanting evening dedicated to raising funds for survivors of Domestic Violence and Human Trafficking. We extend a warm invitation for you to join us this year at The Pacific Club in Newport Beach, promising a night filled with wonder and meaningful contributions to our cause.

With appreciation,

Mark

The Magic Awaits

Creating Positive Memories with her Daughter

Jenny met her husband in her junior year of college. When they dated, he was romantic, and would whisk her away for romantic weekends and day trips. Once they were married, Jenny’s husband stopped wanting to go out and visit new places. She would try to make plans with friends, and he would get angry and forbid her to leave the house to the point that he would steal her keys and hide her driver's license. Over time, she began to feel isolated from her friends and family.

As the abuse became more severe and frequent, Jenny could no longer visit her family, and all calls were made only when her husband was present. Jenny’s husband would force her into sexual acts and chain her in the house. She was even forced to miss her father’s funeral because he chained her and locked her in their house so she would not escape. After becoming pregnant again, she painfully remembered several miscarriages, which were due to the constant abuse she was under. After their daughter was born, her husband began to abuse them as well.

Join us on Social Media for Demin Day

April 24, 2024 marks the official 23rd anniversary of Sexual Assault Awareness Month, but did you know we can trace its history back even longer?

Sexual Assault Awareness Month (SAAM) calls attention to the fact that sexual violence is a widespread issue and impacts everyone in the community. Denim Day takes place on the last Wednesday of April in commemoration of SAAM.

What is Denim Day?

Denim was worn in support of survivors after a rape conviction was overturned by the Italian Supreme Court in 1999. Judges said the victim implied consent by wearing tight jeans, and in response, women in the Italian Parliament came to work the next day wearing jeans to stand with the victim in solidarity. What started as a local campaign to bring awareness to destructive myths that surround sexual violence grew into a movement.

Come join us as we collaborate with the Chance Theater for their production of Tiny Beautiful Things. When you use promo code RF4CT, 30% of the ticket price will be donated to Radiant Futures.

Based on the real-life stories that inspired the best-selling book by Cheryl Strayed (writer of the bestselling memoir Wild) that launched the acclaimed Hulu series, Tiny Beautiful Things is a play rich with humor, insight, compassion – and absolute honesty. When "Sugar" agreed to take over an online advice column, she was still putting her life back together. What seemed like a part-time undertaking transformed into an enrapturing, heartbreaking, and ultimately uplifting journey. You will be forever changed after witnessing this unforgettable collection of true tales about reaching out when you’re stuck, recovering when you’re broken, and finding the courage to ask the questions that are the hardest to answer.

Mark your calendars for a special community night on April 19th. We hope to see you there!
