The Essentials of Victim Advocacy

The Essentials of Victim Advocacy is the only nationally approved comprehensive online and in-person training of its kind, offered in the state of Ohio, for assisting individuals in becoming a comprehensive National Credentialed Advocate.
Participants who complete this 40 hour course will become equipped to use NOVA’s (National Organization for Victim Assistance) crisis intervention model to assist individuals impacted by victimization or traumatic events. Additionally, participants will increase their knowledge about the judicial system, victims’ rights as well as resources available for both victims and the advocate providing the service.

National Crime Victims' Rights Week (NCVRW) will be commemorated April 24–30, 2022. The 2022 NCVRW theme is Rights, access, equity, for all victims.
This year's theme underscores the importance of helping crime survivors find their justice by:
- enforcing victims' rights,
- expanding access to services, and
- ensuring equity and inclusion for all.

April is Sexual Assault Awareness Month and this year the National Sexual Violence Resource Center shared their theme, Building Safe Online Space Together. For the last two years, many of us have spent even MORE time online, trying to stay connected. However, the reality is that so many people don't feel safe in online spaces due to harassment, harmful content and behaviors, and abuse. Together, we can build safe online spaces that value respect, inclusion, and safety.

April is ALSO Volunteer and Intern Appreciation Month! We are very grateful for the interns and volunteers who dedication their time and enthusiasm to help us serve victims of crime and trauma. Our volunteers and interns answer hotline calls, go out on scene, assist during events and outreach initiatives, and help us around the office!
