Friends,
With the winter days numbered and the temperatures slowly creeping up, it's certain that spring is in the air, just as it was 25 years ago when we lost a true BC High legend, Paul Hunter '53. His legacy lives on in our hallways and classrooms as we continue to form young men, as he did, to be men for others. Undoubtedly, he would share the excitement and success of our athletic teams, especially his beloved basketball team.
There is a palpable excitement on campus as life begins to take on a "pre-pandemic" feel. Our students left for February vacation and many of them participated locally, nationally, and globally with exciting trips and experiences in Boston and beyond. You can find more details on each of the opportunities that our student groups participated in below.
We are excited to have visitors back to campus again, and on March 5 our Model UN welcomed back nearly 400 students from Boston and greater New England to Morrissey Boulevard. The students competed fiercely and were excited to be together, in person, once again. With the guidance of Dr. Nick Argento, our students created a website, prepared interactive materials, and formed deeper connections with students from around the region. Congratulations, gentlemen, on a job well done!
And lastly, I'm happy to share that we were able to bring our accepted students back to campus for Revisit Days at the beginning of March. Further, acceptances for the Arrupe Division were sent out last week as well and we'll welcome them back in early April for Revisit Days. Thank you to Dr. Charlie Drane and the Enrollment team for their personal approach to ensuring all students and families feel as though they have a place at BC High. I have reached out to all students that qualified as Presidential Scholars and my conversations have been remarkably fruitful with an energy and excitement that inspires me.
I am eager to share more good news in the days and weeks to come. In the meantime, please keep our seniors in your prayers as they enter the final days on Morrissey Boulevard!

Announcing Murphy Family Stadium
|
|
On February 28, at a special “Signing Day” luncheon attended by student-athletes and coaches representing each of the school’s 20 sports teams, I was pleased to announce that the school has received a $2.5M gift from alumnus John V. Murphy ’67, P’98 to build a new stadium and athletic facilities on the campus, which will be named Murphy Family Stadium.
John and his brother, Rick '69, were on hand to celebrate the occasion with our very enthusiastic student-athletes. Aidan McDonnell '22, captain of the hockey team, reflected on the importance of being a part of the brotherhood at BC High. Likewise, John Murphy shared how important it is to represent the BC High brand, calling BC High "the most well-known Jesuit high school in the world!"
We are excited to break ground on Murphy Stadium and the other projects in Phase 1 of the Campus Master Plan on June 2!

I'm pleased to share this Lenten calendar with the community. Each year, the holy season of Lent offers us a time to renew our relationships with God, with others, and with ourselves. This year, BC High joins Jesuit institutions around the world in celebrating the "Ignatian Year”, which commemorates the 500th anniversary of the cannonball injury that St. Ignatius Loyola sustained at Pamplona and his conversion from knight to pilgrim to saint. May your observance of Lent here at BC High help you “To see all things new in Christ” — the motto of the Ignatian Year.
Special thanks to Fr. Patrick Nolan, SJ, Margaret Felice, and John Mark for enriching our community during this special season.

The arts are truly alive at BC High. I was fortunate to attend the One Act Plays recently and was in awe of the actors, writers, and producers and the hard work they put into their craft.
I'm excited to share that The cast and crew of Hope is the Thing with Feathers are going in the METG One Acts State Competition this weekend! Best of luck to the Dever Players!

14 members of the Business Club chose to spend most of their February vacation becoming acquainted with our BC High alumni and taking time to consider what their own professional futures might look like. It meant so much to our alumni that our students were interested in meeting with them, especially during their vacation. We thank them especially for their time and ensuring the BC High network continues to thrive!

BC Hire: Career Connections
|
|
BC Hire Career Connections has become a terrific program for our young alumni. This year, we have welcomed back alumni speakers to in-person luncheons for our current students as well. These programs help strengthen the alumni network and set BC High apart from other schools.
BC Hire Career Connectios supports BC High’s current students and young alumni in securing meaningful summer jobs and internships, laying the groundwork for career success. Many of these internship opportunities are provided by the powerful BC High Alumni Network and our highly engaged parent community, while others are offered by firms in Greater Boston.
