Lifelong learner offers inspiration at annual College Transitions dinner
Valdete Paiva Cargill ("Mimi") explains that it is never too late to pursue your educational goals at Merrymeeting's annual College Transitions dinner.

Merrymeeting Adult Education held it's annual College Transitions dinner on March 26, at Southern Maine Community College's Learning Commons.

The event celebrates students who transitioned from adult education to community college, and provides information from college professionals about admission, financial aid, and student resources.

Student speakers included Jessie Rizza Lazaro, from the Phillipines, who shared her experience of attending college after finishing Merrymeeting's high school completion program.

Valadete "Mimi" Paiva Cargill, a 77-year-old sophomore  at SMCC inspired those in attendance with her her journey from Brazil to Maine, learning all the way.

Merrymeeting is proud to partner with Southern Maine and Central Maine community colleges as it prepares students to continue their education after graduating from one of its adult education programs.

For more information about high school completion opportunities and the College Transitions program, please call Paul Elisha, academic counselor, at 207-729-7323.
