Dear Denitsa,

Welcome to the Investment Matters Newsletter for June. If you missed the May edition, you can read it here.

This month, we share the new episode of the Emerging Markets Equities Podcast Spring tide: how will EM benefit from nearshoring.

Gabriel Sacks, Investment Director, Emerging Markets Equities, joins Nick Robinson, Senior Investment Director, to discuss the trend of nearshoring and how the changing structure of global supply chains is impacting the companies and economies of emerging markets.

Earlier this month, Alex Smith, Senior Investment Specialist from abrdn's Singapore office took part in the 2023 ASX Adviser Day. He spoke about Emerging Markets and why high convictions strategies are well placed to benefit from changing fundamentals.

Alex has been concentrating on Emerging Markets over the past 5 years and despite seeing the asset class struggling over the past decade, he is now sharing a positive sentiment:

"It’s no secret that 2022 was a bruising year for equities. The war in Ukraine, surging inflation, and China’s COVID lockdowns, left emerging markets as no exception. That has capped off a long period of underperformance from emerging markets. At abrdn, we’re focusing on the key issues that could see emerging markets make a comeback; such as the cracks in the US cycle and its implications for interest rates, and the dollar, China’s economic rebound and a potentially exciting decade for emerging markets in general. We think fundamentals and valuations are also now in EM’s favour."

To find out more about his observations and reasoning, watch his presentation below at the 2023 ASX Adviser Day.
