Southlake Health Announcement in Georgina

Southlake Health has issued a Request for Expressions of Interest (RFEI) to identify potential partners to develop an Advanced Care Centre in Georgina. This request is part of Southlake’s vision to transform into a Distributed Health Network. Mayor Margaret Quirk issued a statement saying she was grateful to Southlake Health and the Northern York South Simcoe Ontario Health Team for acknowledging the importance of locating an Advanced Care Centre in Georgina, and for the commitment they have shown to advance this crucial initiative. The Advanced Care Centre will further bolster access to health services in Georgina, ensuring that residents can benefit from the comfort and convenience of nearby care. High Street Improvements in Sutton

Council received an update on May 6 regarding the High Street improvements in Sutton. Phase one construction is anticipated to begin in June 2026 and will include watermain, storm and sanitary sewer replacements, road reconstruction and bridge rehabilitation outside the BIA. Phase two, focused on the BIA between River Street and West Street, is planned for 2027. View the report and follow the project to stay updated at georgina.ca/HighStreet.

Lake Drive Multi-Use Pathway

The Lake Drive Multi-Use Pathway (MUP) opens the week of May 25. The seasonal pathway between Civic Centre Road and South Drive creates a safer space to walk, cycle and enjoy the waterfront, with one-way eastbound traffic in place for vehicles. While exploring the area, visit nearby beaches and discover the shops and restaurants in Jackson’s Point and Sutton. While using the MUP, keep right, stay alert and follow posted signage to help everyone stay safe. Learn more at georgina.ca/LakeDrive.

Public Works Week

May 17 to 23 is National Public Works Week. The Operations and Infrastructure and Community Services teams keep our community running every day. From maintaining roads and parks to ensuring clean water and reliable wastewater services, they work behind the scenes to make Georgina a great place to live. Bag Tag Exemption Week

May 19 to 22 is Bag Tag Exemption Week. Georgina residents can put out up to five untagged bags, items or containers for collection. Large items and white goods are not included in Bag Tag Exemption Week. They are a separate, scheduled service. To arrange collection, purchase a large item tag and contact GFL (Green For Life) at 1-866-421-5625. Note, waste and green bin pick up will move one day later that week due to the Victoria Day holiday. 

National AccessAbility Week

May 31 to June 6 is National AccessAbility Week. This week recognizes the contributions of people with disabilities and highlights the importance of building accessible and inclusive communities. In Georgina, we’re committed to identifying, removing and preventing barriers so all residents can participate fully in community life. Opening day at Georgina Village Museum

  • Saturday, May 9 – Swap and Sell/eWaste Event is back by popular demand. Find new and used items and dispose of old, unused or broken electronics free of charge. 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the Georgina Ice Palace parking lot.
  • Sunday, May 10 – Mother’s Day Swim at the Georgina Leisure Pool. Mothers swim free with one paid admission. 2 p.m. to 3:30 p.m.
  • Sunday, May 10 – Mother’s Day Swim at the MURC. Mothers swim free with one paid admission. 2:45 to 4:45 p.m.
  • Wednesday, May 20 – Centre of Arthritis Excellence presented by Northern York South Simcoe Ontario Health Team, 6:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Link.
  • Saturday, May 30 – Curbside Giveaway Day, 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. Place unwanted items at the curb for others to take free of charge. Unclaimed items must be removed by 5 p.m.

May 10 to 16 is Home Fire Sprinkler Week. Learn how home fire sprinklers help protect people and property at georgina.ca/fire.


Residents can apply for and receive parking passes instantly through the Town’s online portal. Learn more at georgina.ca/ParkingPass.


Street sweeping is underway weekdays from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m., weather permitting. Avoid parking on Town streets during these times to help crews clear roads. Learn more at georgina.ca/StreetSweeping.

Council meetings are a hybrid model, providing staff, Council members and the public the option of participating either in person or virtually.

2026 Municipal Election

Nominations and voting

Are you interested in becoming a candidate for the 2026 Municipal Election? The nomination period is open and closes at 2 p.m. on Nomination Day, which is Aug. 21. Candidates can file a nomination for an office on Georgina Town Council or as a school board trustee by appointment between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. from Monday to Friday. Voting Day is Monday, Oct. 26, 2026. More information about the 2026 Municipal Election can be found at georgina.ca/election.
