Student Safety Reporting

If you believe your child is being bullied, harassed, or you suspect any type of suspicious behavior, contact your child’s principal, or report the incident through our Student Safety Reporting System.

Reporting Student Results for Ohio’s State Tests to Families

Ohio law (Ohio Revised Code 3313.6029) requires districts, community schools, STEM schools and chartered nonpublic schools to report the results of Ohio’s State Tests to students’ parents or guardians no later than June 30 of each year. Results may either be sent via mail, electronic mail or by posting the scores to a secure portal on the district or school’s website that families can access. Springboro Schools will be posting scores to a secure parent portal.

The required test reporting date of June 30 each year applies to Ohio’s State Tests in grades 3 through 8 and high school end-of-course tests. The June 30 reporting date does not include the Ohio English Language Proficiency Assessments (OELPS, OELPA and Alt-OELPA), the Alternate Assessment for Students with the Most Significant Cognitive Disabilities (AASCD), ACT or SAT.

Reporting Student Progress - Report Card Update

This notice is to inform Springboro families of a change to how we will be reporting future student progress. For the 2024-25 school year, quarter one will be the final quarter Springboro Schools will be sending home a paper copy of the report card. Starting quarter two, families will be able to access report card information through their ProgressBook Parent Access account. With this in mind, families will need to set up a ProgressBook Parent Access account using a registration key to view future quarterly report cards. If you do not have access to a registration key, please contact your school office (elementary) or guidance office (secondary) for a new key. Following the first of the new year, January 2025, families who still need to create a ProgressBook Parent account will receive an email with a registration key including steps for completing this process.

8th Grade Students Not Attending Washington D.C. Trip

With over 400 students not attending the Washington D.C. trip, planning alternative activities for the group proved challenging. We're happy to announce a fun option for Friday, October 25th! While Wednesday and Thursday will follow a regular schedule, these days will focus on review and extension, rather than new material, homework, or tests/quizzes. Below is a breakdown.

Wednesday, October 23rd & Thursday, October 24th:

  • Students will follow their regular schedules, focusing on reviewing and supplementing existing coursework rather than new material.

Friday, October 25th:

  • Bowling Trip to Poelking Lanes South: Secure a spot for your student at the bowling alley for $15. You can pay with either cash or check to Springboro Schools.
  • Lunch: Students attending the bowling trip should bring a packed lunch to eat upon return, weather permitting we will eat outside.
  • Payment and Sign-Up: If you'd like your child to join the bowling trip, please print this link and submit the permission slip along with payment (cash or check payable to Springboro Schools) by Friday, October 18th to the homeroom teacher. If the form and payment are not received by this date, the students will unfortunately not be able to go. Each student will also be given a form in homeroom.
  • Modified Schedule (Friday): Those not attending the bowling trip will have a modified schedule on Friday, October 25th, as well.

Picture Retakes/Make-ups Day

Picture Retake/Make-up Day is scheduled for November 13th. Whether your student got their picture taken during schedule pick-up or during the picture day on September 30th, if you did not like their original picture and would like a 2nd chance to get a better one they can get their picture retaken on November 13th. There is a $5 fee for the picture retake and all purchased products need to be returned to get the picture retaken.

The State of Ohio has two laws that require schools to provide educational opportunities focused on the importance of emotional and physical safety of students and staff. To create safe and supportive learning environments in Springboro Junior High School, we will be focusing throughout the year on Erin’s Law and House Bill 123 (Safety and Violence Education (SAVE Our Students Act).

Under HB123, students in grades 6-12 are required to receive one hour of instruction in social inclusion, one hour of instruction in violence prevention and one hour of instruction in suicide prevention per school year. These topics are crucial for fostering a safe and supportive learning environment, promoting positive relationships among students and equipping them with the knowledge and skills to navigate challenges they will face throughout their lives.

We will be utilizing resources from the Sandy Hook Promise.

ABOUT SANDY HOOK PROMISE

Sandy Hook Promise is a national nonprofit organization led by several family members who lost loved ones at the Sandy Hook Elementary School shooting on December 14, 2012. Our sole purpose is to prevent gun violence so that no other parent experiences the senseless, horrific, and preventable loss of their child.

Sandy Hook Promise prevents gun violence by teaching adults and youth how to recognize the signs and signals of individuals who may be at-risk of hurting themselves or others, and how to intervene to get them help. We train youth and adults, at no cost, in four evidence-based “Know the Signs” programs. For more information on Sandy Hook Promise, please visit: www.sandyhookpromise.org.

We recognize parents play a vital role in their child’s education and we value your partnership. We believe that working together with families creates the most supportive environment for our students. However, we understand families may have different comfort levels with this subject matter. If you do not wish for your child to participate in these lessons, please click Here. If you have further questions, please contact Leslie Christofano at lchristofano@springboro.org

District Safety

As a district, we are committed to responding to any threat toward a safe school environment. We have a wonderful partnership with the City of Springboro and Clearcreek Township. Our District Crisis Team assesses safety protocols regularly, and we remain in constant communication, as needed, with our two (2) School Resource Officers (SROs), as well as the officers of the Springboro PD and Clearcreek Twp. Police Officers will continue to periodically walk through our school buildings, along with our full-time SROs, throughout the school year.
