Springfield Robotics wins $20,000 grant from 3M to expand STEM experiences
Providing and supporting under-resourced students with STEM experiences, as well as outreach, are focus of two major grants won by the Kickapoo-housed club.

“Robotics is a fun way to practice programming in the real world,” said Caden Haustein, KHS senior. “It’s cool to see my work. Something I made moves, accomplishing a goal, built by a team. I like being competitive, and Robotics is one of the best parts of being at Kickapoo.”

A STORY WE HEARD
"Projects funded by Back to School grants are educator-driven and student-focused. In addition to giving students new tools, resources and experiences designed to help them excel, Back to School grants often help educators develop best practices that can be shared throughout the district. The impact is tangible and far reaching."

My SPS Story: Sherry Charbonneau, early childhood teacher at Shady Dell Early Childhood Center
“A friend at SPS was on an interview team this year, and she shared how one person's story touched her. This person had a student who attended Weller and her child was in my kindergarten class. This applicant shared how her child's kindergarten teacher involved parents in the classroom as volunteers and because she helped in my class, she was inspired to become a teacher.

So she enrolled in college as a mother of two small children, and she got her degree.

This year, Sarah Prewitt is a new third-grade teacher for SPS at my friend's school.

My friend wanted to share this story with me, because she said, "You not only inspire children, but you inspire our students' parents!"
