From Our President
March is the official month of spring when the sun crosses the equator from south to north, bringing warmth and light back to the Northern Hemisphere and plunging the Southern Hemisphere into its fall and winter darkness.
With the warmth and light that spring brings comes a rejuvenation of energy and spirit, and that is what is happening at Assistance League® of Inland North County. As many new members are eager to participate with their more seasoned counterparts in programs that provide for children, adults and seniors, our volunteers have hit the ground running – so to speak.

On February 6, 2023, ninety-eight representatives from San Diego County Chapters of Assistance League® gathered together to rekindle friendships, network and brainstorm about similar and not so similar philanthropic programs, best practices and challenges facing the nonprofit sector. Our regional Chapters are but four of the 120 chapters of National Assistance League nationwide. Attending chapters were, of course, ourselves, Assistance League of Inland North County, (Volunteer members pictured above.) serving the communities of San Marcos, Bonsall, Fallbrook, Rainbow, Valley Center, Warner Springs, Julian, Poway, Rancho Bernardo, and Escondido; Assistance League of North Coast, serving the communities of Carlsbad, Oceanside & Vista; Assistance League of Rancho San Dieguito, serving the communities of Encinitas, Solana Beach, Cardiff, Del Mar, Carmel Valley and South Carlsbad, and Assistance League of Greater San Diego, serving the greater San Diego area.
Partnership for a Purpose - Working with Escondido Unified High School District (EUHSD) Workability Program
As you all know, we depend on our generous supporters and donors for many things and that includes financial and in-kind donations. The clothing and household goods we receive from the public is the lifeblood of the Thrift Shop which in turn, is our primary source of funding for our programs. During the pandemic and since, we experienced a tsunami of donations from the community as families stayed home and needed to make space for working and learning. However, there is an old saying “too much of a good thing...”. Not only were the storage areas in the Chapter House bursting at the seams, but we had a great deal of difficulty finding and keeping volunteers to work at our donation station outside the Chapter House. Hot sun, cold winds and occasional heavy lifting all contributed to a lack of regular help. Many days our shop managers had to help outside and neglect their regular duties because the donations were overwhelming. What to do?

Our Assisteens® auxiliary members were busy this month making over 20 no-sew blankets that were gifted to The San Diego Humane Society, located in Escondido. When we say we try to help our community, our Assisteens don’t leave out our four-legged friends. In addition to making no-sew blankets for cats and dogs, Assisteens also made fun Valentine cards for 16 senior citizens and 15 Valentine goody bags for the kids for the Valentines Day party at Interfaith Community Services, located at the Betty and Melvin Cohn Center at Washington Ave and Quince Street in Escondido.

Waste Not is our newest program. We appreciate all of the donations that we receive but our Thrift Shop has high quality standards for resell. That means we have extra clothes that need to find a home with other organizations that can use them. We are working with eight non-profits that can use clothing for those in need. Deliveries are made as needed and what is still left goes to Goodwill. Read More about the organizations currently receiving our donations so nothing goes to waste!
