Meet Ava (Age 4)

Ava is 35 pounds of perfection. Ava has no sad tales. She had a family that loved her, but Ava was ready to move on. Ava has a little cowgirl in her and all cowgirls really need is a home on the range, a cowgirl hat and a home to call her own. Ava loves to dress up, eat fine foods and take short walks. Ava is 4 years old.

I’ve been in my foster home two weeks and let me tell you one thing I sure do know how to make everyone here laugh. Foster Pa calls me “tiny dancer” because I always do a little pitter-patter happy dance when I see food. I can’t help it, food makes me happpppy! Sometimes I pitter-patter so much I go around in circles. Foster Pa laughs and as he serves me my food he tells me “Enjoy Tiny Dancer!”

Foster Ma tells me I’m smart, beautiful, absolutely perfect and I’m going to make someone the best, best friend there is.

The resident bulldog here, Blëu, taught me how to use the potty bell on the back door. Blëu’s philosophy is ring the bell, go outside, do your business and then come in and get a treat. I also follow this philosophy very well, but I have developed another philosophy. I’m a firm believer in the motto “Work smarter, not harder!” So, when I feel like I deserve a treat, I go ring the bell and then spin around with a big ‘ole smile on my face while I patiently sit and wait. It only took a couple of times, but I have finally trained my foster pawrents on this.

Also, I love to baths, cuddle time and short walks. Ya know, there’s really not much I don’t love. If you love it, I love it!

Senior Spotlight --
Meet Gator

My dad is one tough Marine—as tough as they come. But he sure had been crying a lot for a while.

I think it had to do with me! My name is Gator and I am 7 years old. I had always lived with my dad. But then things began to change. There was the divorce and having to move—and he cried. Then I got sick—and he cried and said he couldn’t afford to take me to the vet. Then he took me to the vet—and he cried when they told him how much it would cost. Then he decided to contact a Bulldog rescue and see if they could help me—and he cried. The rescue had him take me to their vet. These were the most wonderful and understanding people I have ever met. Dad thought so too—and he cried. Dad talked with them about all my problems and what he had done to help me. They had some ideas of new things to try. But dad still wasn’t sure he could afford to keep me. I stayed overnight at the clinic so they could start working on my skin and ear infection. Dad called to check on me—and he cried. He decided I needed to stay with the rescue so he could get back on his feet and know that I was being well cared for. He wanted to be sure I would always be loved and healthy.

I am now nestled into my new foster home and can give you the run down of me. I have a calm personality that loves my humans. I will follow them everywhere because seriously, I’m just a curious fellow. Sitting beside my humans is what I’m all about. If you like to shake hands or forget to give me loving, I will remind you. Chewing on things doesn’t interest me at all. Plus, I will leave barking for the younger ones. You will catch me sleeping more than walking. I have a broad chest and slim tight end. I constantly need fresh water due to me drooling in it when I drink. Please keep a little wash cloth or towel close to wipe my adorable mug. I love kids and so far, haven’t had any issues with the other eight Bulldogs here. Please share my story so I can get a new family soon. I would really appreciate everyone’s help.
After the Thrill Is Gone

What is more exciting than adding a new dog to the family? Everyone fawns over her and competes for the pup’s attention. Everybody wants to play with, feed, and even bathe him. Picking up the outside poop is just part of having her in your home and heart. He is the nucleus of the household, love is everywhere, and the thrill of the new Bulldog fuels an emotional high.

Sometimes, that emotional fuel evaporates. As time wears on and newness wears off, walking her becomes a chore. The vet bills exceed expectations. Cleaning the wrinkles and the nether regions is a bother. That sweet pup is no longer so popular, no one dotes on him as before and neglect is her usual state.

The kids have moved on to other shiny objects and the pup’s star has tarnished. His heart and spirit are broken. She may become a behavioral problem, sometimes fouling the house because she does not know how she “failed” you.

It is not his fault; he did not change, you did. Family chat admits that maybe, adopting her was a mistake. This is a tragedy for the adoptive family but more so for the Bulldog. She did little more than love you for adopting her. No one, especially LSBCR ever wants this to happen.

The LSBCR champions the cause of our beloved Bulldogs. Some applicants grouse about the process so let us explain why we are so passionate about our rescued pups. English Bulldogs are consistently amongst the top five most popular breed in the U.S. They are beautiful, friendly, and bred for companionship. Most exemplify gentle and sweet temperaments and are affectionate lovers. They also require more love and attention than other breeds. They cannot tolerate outside temperature extremes, suffer from skin, digestive, and other ailments, and crave human interaction more than most.

As a potential adoptive family, your priority must be the dog’s happiness, love, security, and fur-ever home. Any mistake could mean heartbreak for the family, especially the kids, but mostly for the Bulldog. He or she is our focus and the reason we at LSBCR are so zealous in their guardianship.

Please consider these factors as you make your Bulldog decision.
