Keeping downtown 'spiffy'! Our dedicated downtown Public Works team is looking snazzy in their brand-new Portland Downtown vests! Through a partnership that has been going strong since 1992, downtown property owners pay a supplemental tax to fund the ongoing mission of Portland Downtown, a 501c4 nonprofit downtown improvement district. As part of the supplemental services, Portland's downtown has a full-time team that keeps downtown looking spiffy 24/7/365, rain, shine, or snow!

What's blooming on Congress Street? Thanks to a partnership with the City of Portland's Parks, Recreation, and Facilities department, there are now 40 brand new self-watering flower pots along Congress Street. The retired granite planters, which served downtown well for more than forty years, are getting a new lease on life on Vannah Avenue in Back Cove. The new self-watering planters have a water reservoir, which will reduce maintenance, and the lighter materials will enable the planters to be stored in the winter, making winter operations easier. A true win-win!

Breathe easy in downtown parks. The air in downtown parks is even cleaner with the help of these new signs. Thanks to a partnership with the City of Portland's Tobacco Prevention Program and Maine Prevention Services of the Maine CDC , downtown parks are receiving an extra boost - reminding people that smoking is not allowed. So, you can 'breathe easy' this summer - and all year round.
