Event Wrap ups

Nicola Wealth Management West Coast Squash Academy Junior Open
The 2019 Nicola Wealth West Coast Squash Academy Junior Open was a great and intense weekend of high-level junior squash.  Kids from Vancouver, Richmond, North Vancouver, Nanaimo, Delta and West Vancouver showcased their talents, abilities and speed.

It was fantastic and entertaining to see the young category mix U9 with 7 kids playing a round robin with event medals split on boys and girs U9 and U7.

In the Girls Gold draw, Yu Quan Ng showed her experience to beat Ocean Ma 3-0 in the final.  In the Boys' Pro category people really enjoyed a great Saturday semi-final where top seeded Emilio Carrillo beat Jacob Lin 3-1.  In the second semi-final James Toth, after losing the first two games, came back to win in five on extra points with Gabriel Yun.

This set up the final where Emilio Carrillo beat James Toth 3-1 to get the title at his home club for the second time.

Both champions Emilio and Quan will be going to study at prestigious universities next year with squash scholarships - Rochester University (Emilio) and Williams College (Quan).

Many thanks to all participants, sponsors and volunteers!

Terrace Squash Junior Pathway

Our new Squash BC Club member, Terrace Racquets Association (TRA), partnered with the City of Terrace and held a Fundamentals / Developing Junior Pathway event which involved 4 x 45 minute sessions, introducing seven new juniors to: squash rules and scoring, training and skills, and basic technique.

By all reports the event went really well and received many favourable comments from parents and kids.

Apparently, the City of Terrace was also incredibly satisfied with the event and has expressed interest in being involved again!

Congratulations to TRA for running such a successful pathway event!

The 2020 Fund was established in 2000 by Squash BC to help protect the future of squash in British Columbia. As funding from government and other sources becomes less predictable, it is important to find alternative ways to ensure a sound financial future for the sport of squash. The income accumulated through the 2020 Fund is used to promote the growth of the game through the development of junior squash. By establishing a vibrant and well-financed junior program, Squash BC will take a major step toward a successful future for the sport in this province.  To donate to the 2020 Fund, click here .
