Squash BC presents the 2020 Emerging Female Leaders in Squash
The Emerging Leader program was established in 2018 as a strategic initiative to attract and retain women and girls in squash.
The local champion strategy proved to be successful in increasing participation.

Two British Columbian women have been recognized as the 2020 Leaders of Women's Squash in the province.

Jessica Evans of Mission (Chilliwack Squash Club/ Cheam Leisure Centre) and Trish Campbell of Parksville (Bayside Quality Inn Racquets Club) were both named this week as emerging female leaders in the sport. The two women were selected from a highly competitive roster of women who championed the sport of squash during the province-wide women's squash week last September.

Each woman will be receive a $500 grant on behalf of their club to further build the women's and girl's squash program at their club.

"Jessica and Trish proved to be outstanding leaders in their communities in promoting squash to women and girls.
Clubs rely on their volunteer hours to organize events such as women's
squash clinics, leagues, fun tournaments and socials. We really appreciate the time and effort from these individuals to connect with the squash community" stated Shelley Neil, Chair of the
Women & Girls in Squash Committee.

Evergreen Winter Classic

We had 6 pros come to play the Professional Doubles Event. The winning team was Greg Park (New Jersey) and Viktor Berg (Vancouver) in a 3 team round robin. The singles tournament had 114 entries and the Men's Open was won by Morgan Latremouille who saved 3 match balls against Drew Henderson in the semifinals and won in 5 games against Hamid Kiani in the finals. It was great to see West Van City Counselor, Marcus Wong, and West Van Mayor, Mary-Ann Booth there spectating during the weekend.

Junior Squash
Championships

The squash this weekend was a high calibre like every year. Many players played with
passion, dripping sweat and tears at the end of their matches. But 20 min
later it was great to see kids wearing their hoodies and playing ping pong in
the gymnasium, and cheering each other on. These are the days that we
remember and drive us to work harder for the next event we are to compete in.
Congratulations to our event champions:
