News and Updates - 11/18/25

Here's the latest rundown on all things squash related in the Boston area.

Public High School Squash and Open House

Have a student in grades 6–12 looking for a fun, fast, and engaging winter sport?

Squash could be the perfect fit!

The winter season runs December 1 through mid-February, with top teams aiming to qualify for Nationals in Baltimore.

Squash is great for both body and mind. Players typically practice 2-3 times per week, including one weekend session (for example: two weekday practices from 4-5pm plus a 90-minute weekend practice).

Several local public school teams and club-based squads still have room for a few more players. In addition to established high-school teams from Brookline, Needham, and SquashBusters (Boston & Lawrence), the following clubs welcome players from any nearby town, you just need to be able to get to practices:

  • Acton-Boxborough – Coaches: Paul Ansdell, Matt Sidaway, Belkys Hazzard, Chris Mach (at SquashWest)
  • Arlington – Coach: Ali Merchant (Harvard Murr Center)
  • Cambridge Rindge & Latin – Parent Advocate: Jonathan Henke; Student Coach: Milo Miller (Harvard Murr Center)
  • Concord-Acton Development Team – Coach: Martha Soper (SquashWest)
  • Lincoln-Sudbury+ – Coaches: Paul Ansdell, Matt Sidaway, Belkys Hazzard, Chris Mach (SquashWest)
  • Newton Development Team – Contacts: Steve Lantos, Anton Sizer, Chris O’Brien (Fessenden courts)
  • Wellesley – Coach: Henry Ma (Maugus Club)

All abilities are welcome—whether your player is brand-new to the sport or has prior experience. Reply to this email if you're interested.

A Short Movie: Crack Shot

The 14-minute short film Crack Shot  explores both the highs and the darker elements of competition, set against the backdrop of squash. The film has won awards, in particular earning recognition for its visual representation of a game that is traditionally difficult to follow for unfamiliar audiences. Its Boston-based filmmaker, Alex Cohen, is pursuing development of a feature-length version. The project aims to present squash in a manner accessible to general audiences, with potential timing to coincide with the sport's debut at the LA28 Olympics. The short film is available for viewing.

The full-length film script, similar to Queen's Gambit and Karate Kid, has the underdog prevailing and finding healthy resolutions. Those interested in the feature film development, including potential lead investors, can access a project deck and contact Mr. Cohen directly.
