Principal's Perspective: Flexible Instruction Days (FIDs)
Dear Delone Catholic Families,
Praised be Jesus Christ! I am pleased to announce that our school, along with all the schools in the Diocese of Harrisburg, is implementing Flexible Instructional Days (a.k.a. FIDs), following a ruling by the State of Pennsylvania that now allows schools to use FIDs as part of the academic calendar.  FIDs are to be used when school is closed for inclement weather or similar circumstances. A FID will count as a full instructional school day and, correspondingly, an extra school day will NOT be added to the academic calendar. Please note, however, that the State only permits five school closings as FIDs. More than five FIDs would result in instructional days being added.
At Delone Catholic High School, we will adhere to the following procedure:
  • Announcements will be made indicating that Delone Catholic HS is closed via the ordinary channels (social media, radio, email, etc.)
  • A subsequent email will be sent indicating that we are using a Flexible Instructional Day.
  • Assignments will be communicated and/or made available online through Google classroom or via direct email from the teacher unless teachers have previously provided an assignment by an alternative means.
  • Teachers are expected to be available from 9:00 am until 3:00 pm during the FID to respond to students' questions.
  • Students will have two days upon returning to school to submit completed FID assignments.
As educators we believe that continuity of instruction is important. By the Diocese implementing Flexible Instructional Days, students will not lose momentum in their learning which may be the case when days are added to the end of the calendar year. Flexible Instructional Days will allow students to continue to learn and provide a chance to do so in ways that are creative and engaging. There will not be any additional or surprise assessments as part of this process.
The State gives us great flexibility, but they do mandate that we have a measurement for our attendance for each day, including Flexible Instructional Days. As an educational institution we will abide closely by this expectation. Therefore, if the vast majority of our students do not complete their work as required, we will not be able to count this day as a school calendar day and thus a day will be added to the end of the calendar year.
Any specific questions in regards to FID assignments should be directed to your student's teacher(s). Each teacher's email address can be found on the Plusportals page.

Thank you for your understanding, support, and cooperation! We are excited for this new undertaking and are grateful for your trust and assistance in this matter, as in all things.
Blessings and best wishes to you and your family.

Middle States Update: Objective #2
The Excellence by Design Protocol set forth by the Middle States Association requires each school to have at least two Student Performance Objectives and one (optional) Operational  Objective.  These objectives undergo a technical review by members of the Middle States Association to ensure that what we are proposing is appropriately challenging, but also attainable.  Each objective is accompanied by an extensive action plan that specifically states how we as a school intend to achieve our particular objectives. Leading up to our Middle States Visit, we will highlight one of our new objectives each week.  Our second Student Performance Objective, which highlights success for our Instructional Support Students is:

By the year 2026, Delone Catholic High School will demonstrate an improvement in services for Instructional Support* students as measured by:
a.)    A graduation rate of 85% enrolled in the Instructional Support Program
b.)    A student participation rate of 85% in a program that pairs Junior and Senior Instructional Support Students with Freshmen and Sophomore Instructional Support Students
* Instructional Support (IS) students have approved documentation of diagnosed learning differences.

SportsLeader Virtue of the Week
One pillar of the SportsLeader program is a weekly virtue that we incorporate into our athletic practices and throughout our school community. Every week, we will share them here to encourage the students to take the virtue into their homes as well!

Our virtue this week is ADVENTUREThe strength to undertake new and daring enterprises.  Many times we are fearful of new and daring things. Yet, often the only way we can really grow is to embrace new things, no matter how scary they may be in the beginning. When you wake up each day this week, decide to see each day as a new adventure. Dare to try something new, regardless if you succeed or fail. Experience the adventure of life!
