Act Now to Support Expansion of Education Tax Credit Program
Pennsylvania lawmakers have returned to Harrisburg to continue debating the 2017-18 state budget. While this remains an uncertain time, it is also an important time to show support for an expansion of the Educational Improvement Tax Credit (EITC) program.

It has been acclaimed as one of the best educational programs Pennsylvania offers to students in both public and private schools, and as is stands, the House has a chance to vote on an EITC increase.

We need your help to urge and remind all lawmakers to invest in success and support the expansion of the EITC program by voting YES on a state budget that includes an increase.

From the Spiritual Life Office
Senior Retreat Letter from Mrs. Kate Phenicie
Dear Parents of the Class of 2018,

Grace and peace to you! It is hard to believe we are getting ready for your sons' and daughters' last class  retreat with Delone Catholic! I wanted to take a moment and let you know what the retreat will be like  and what to expect.

On  Wednesday, Oct. 11, we will travel down to Mount St. Mary's University and spend our retreat  there. The teachers helping that day are Mrs. Marrocco, Mrs. Fuhrman, Mr. Fournie, Mr. Smith, Mrs. Hammar, and myself. The day is centered around giving students the tools to discern where God is calling them after graduation. First, we will look at what we can learn from Mary's example and hear from  current Mount students (Gabi Cranga and Maria Elser, DCHS class of '17) about the transition to college. We will gather for the celebration of Mass in the "Glass Chapel" at the Grotto of Our Lady of Lourdes and have a few moments to tour the Grotto. After lunch, the students will learn about different ways to pray and spend some time in Adoration before the Blessed Sacrament before we leave. It is a beautiful day, and I look forward to sharing it with the Class of 2018!

A few practical notes so that we can have the best day possible:
  • To get the most time at the Mount, we are going to try to leave Delone Catholic as close to 8 a.m. as we can.
  • Students may dress down, according to the policy on page 35 of the handbook - however, we ask that the students not wear sweatpants because we are attending Mass.
  • Students were also told that the school cell phone policy (handbook p. 47) remains in place, because it is a regular school day. We hope this helps promote a reflective retreat day.
  • Everyone is asked to pack their own lunch and bring their own water. They will be able to keep these on the bus until lunch.
  • We are very thankful to the Mount for hosting us for the day, and we ask that students remember to respect the location and represent Delone Catholic well. If there are any issues, students will be referred to the Vice Principal.
  • We will be back at Delone Catholic by 2:30 p.m., and students are dismissed upon our arrival.
Please pray for a successful  retreat, and know of my prayers for your families. If there are any other questions, please feel free to e-mail me.

Sincerely in Christ,
Mrs. Kate Phenicie
Director of Spiritual Life

SportsLeader Virtue of the Week
One pillar of the SportsLeader program is a weekly virtue that we incorporate into our athletic practices and throughout our school community. Every week, we will share them here to encourage the students to take the virtue into their homes as well!

This week, our community has been focusing on the virtue of purpose - the strength to have a definite goal and direction. What is the purpose of our community? Our team? Our family? We are here to grow in virtue, to grow in strength that will prepare us for life. Reflect on what you want to accomplish with your life - what your life's purpose is.

2017 Women's Conference Pulpit Announcement
Women of the Diocese of Harrisburg, this conference is for you!
When was the last time you took a day to refresh your spirit and rest awhile in the arms of Jesus and Mary, while, at the same time, enjoying the company of like-minded women?  On Saturday, Oct. 14, the Diocese of Harrisburg will offer our 3rd Annual Women's Conference at Bishop McDevitt High School.

The theme this year is Lead All Souls to Heaven: Mary's Message to Us from Fatima.  Our Keynote Speaker will be national speaker, author, and award winning journalist, Sue Brinkmann, who will share her powerful conversion story and how it fits right in with Mary's message to us from Fatima.  There are 36 workshop choices over 3 sessions.... plus Confession, Eucharistic Adoration, Beautiful Music, great exhibits, good food, and Holy Mass celebrated by Bishop Gainer...as well as fellowship with hundreds of women.

Last year more than 800 women attended this conference.  Come and see what everyone is talking about, and see what God's love can do in your life!
We know you're busy.  Unwrap your schedule so that you can wrap yourself in the love of Jesus and Mary.  You and those you love and serve every day will be grateful you did.  We hope to see you on Oct. 14!

We kindly ask that guests use one of the two entrances still available along Delone Avenue or the ticket booth next to the concession stand along side of South Street. We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause. Thank you for your cooperation and understanding.
