Talking With Mrs. Tompkins
We have just completed our third week and we are proud to report that students have earned another Freedom Friday Dress Down Day, with 98 percent of parents screening and reporting results for their students. We are very thankful for your efforts to continually monitor the health and well-being of our students as well as our school community. Please have your student refer to page 53 of the School Handbook for the Dress Down Day Dress Code Policy.
A huge shout out and thank you to all the teachers and staff for their Back to School night videos and live meetings, to Mrs. Julia Fuhrman who coordinated the technological end of the evening and to all the parents who were able to attend. We appreciated your patience as we navigated a few technical glitches, but - in the new reality of COVID - that is to be expected. If you have any specific questions that you were unable to ask of teachers tonight, please email them directly. You can find each teacher's email address on the school website under Academics/Award Winning Faculty.
There have been some updates to the Diocese of Harrisburg Catholic Schools Reopening Plan Framework 2020-21, which are highlighted in yellow. Please take a moment to review them all. One area of the plan that I wanted to bring to your attention is regarding travel restrictions.
"All schools, school staff and school community members will abide by the requirements of the State of Pennsylvania on travel restrictions and quarantine.  Anyone entering Pennsylvania from the states listed in the order "will need to quarantine for 14 days."  For the most up-to-date list of restricted states, please CLICK HERE.
If your student needs to quarantine due to travel restrictions, we will provide him/her our virtual option for learning during that period of time. Please contact Mrs. Jennifer Hart at jhart@delonecatholic.org to make these arrangements.
If your child is attending school in person (not as a virtual student), and he/she is staying home for an illness, missing school for an appointment, or any situation where he/she will be marked absent for any part of the day, your student should contact his/her teachers and request information as to what may have been missed during class. All school work for absences should follow the teacher's classroom policy and the Student Handbook/Planbook. (Please see the class syllabus available in the PlusPortals for this policy.) Students should not expect to be able to join his/her classes virtually.
There will be two additional water bottling filling stations in place by the end of the month for the convenience of our students. Also a reminder, school will be closed on Wednesday, Sept. 30 so that our teachers may attend the Annual Diocesan Education Conference.
Today, September 11, is Patriot Day. Patriot day honors the memory of the nearly 3,000 innocent victims who died in the September 11, 2001, terrorist attacks. Each year Americans dedicate this day to remembering those who died and to the first responders who risked their own lives to save others. In honor of all first responders, I leave you with this prayer:
Gracious God, You know that first responders ride an emotional roller coaster and even when their efforts are successful, the things they see and do take a heavy toll emotionally. Please guard their hearts and minds. Restore their mental and emotional resources when they have been depleted. And let them not become weary in their good work (Galatians 6:9), in Jesus' name, Amen.

May God Bless You,

Donna Tompkins
Interim Principal

Calling All Parent Photograpers
The Delone Catholic Yearbook, The Delonian, needs your help! After many years of service, our long-time school photographer David McFarland retired this spring. We have now hired a new photographer, but she will not be in the school, or at school events, as often as Mr. McFarland was.
We are asking parents who are at sporting events, extracurricular activities or any school-related functions to take photos, especially candid shots and send them to Delone Catholic Yearbook. (dchsyearbook@delonecatholic.org).

All submissions are welcomed, but please know that not all submissions will be used. All photos will be reviewed by Delone Catholic staff for appropriateness and to confirm that all students in the photos have signed photo permission forms.

Photos may also be used on social media, in print publication and for other school purposes.
If you have any questions, you may contact Mrs. Lauren Gross, Director of Strategic Communications, at lgross@delonecatholic.org, or Mr. John Fournie, Publications teacher, at jfournie@delonecatholic.org.

SportsLeader Virtue of the Week
One pillar of the SportsLeader program is a weekly virtue that we incorporate into our athletic practices and throughout our school community. Every week, we will share them here to encourage the students to take the virtue into their homes as well!

Our virtue theme this week is LEADERSHIP - The strength to serve others without seeking to be served yourself. Every single one of us has the potential to be a great LEADER because we are all capable of serving.
