Talking with Mrs. Tompkins
Friday will be another Freedom Friday Dress down day for our students. We appreciate your continued diligence in performing the COVID screen and logging the results into the Plus Portal. Please refer to page 53 of the School Handbook for guidelines on the Dress Down Day dress code. Students will be cited for not following dress code policies.

Please refer to the email which was sent out on Tuesday that included changes to our Academic Calendar. Monday, Nov. 23 and Tuesday, Nov 24 will be virtual school days for students and staff. We will follow a half day of virtual instruction (see the schedule HERE) and a half day of independent work. Teachers will not be available for questions during these afternoons. Our Thanksgiving break remains the same, with students returning to school on Tuesday, Dec. 1. During the month of December, the following Wednesdays will be virtual instruction days: Dec. 2, Dec. 9, Dec. 16 and Dec. 23. We will follow the half day schedule for virtual instruction, and expect students to work independently on assignments for the remainder of the school day. Teachers will be available via email to answer student questions on these days. Students will not be expected to report to study hall. A copy of the Virtual Learners Handbook was attached to the email and should be reviewed with your student(s) prior to starting virtual instruction.

The Governor of Pennsylvania has recently updated the guidelines for mitigation efforts and travel during the holiday season. We ask that you inform the school of your family's travel plans so that we may follow the recommendations from the Department of Health. To alert us of your travel plans, please complete and return THIS FORM.

As we celebrate the Thanksgiving Holiday, please know that each and every one of you is in my prayers. Every day is a blessing. The Delone Catholic community remains resilient and always lifts my spirits.

I will leave you with this very simple prayer in honor of the upcoming holiday:

Give thanks to the Lord, for He is good; His love endures forever.
— Psalm 107:1

May God Bless You,

High School Placement Test Registration
Delone Catholic desires a smooth and strong transition from grade school to high school for every student. To help ensure incoming freshmen are placed in the courses where they can be most successful, we require each student to take the High School Placement Test (HSPT). The test covers English, science and math.

Testing will take place at Delone Catholic HS in the school cafeteria. Arrival time is 8:30-8:45 a.m. Testing begins at 9 a.m. and concludes at 1 p.m. Students are asked to bring #2 pencils and a pen. Cell phones need to powered off and put away during testing. Snacks and drinks will be available during the breaks. Students will be dismissed by 1:15 p.m.

The High School Placement Test is being given on Saturday, January 16, 2021 (snow make-up date: Saturday, January 23, 2021) and Saturday, February 13, 2021 (snow make-up date: Saturday, February 20, 2021)

To register for the test, please complete the Placement Test Registration Form. For more information please contact Mrs. Jennifer Hart, Director of Enrollment and Outreach at 717-637-5969 Ext. 206.
Armed Services Vocational Aptitude Battery (ASVAB)
Each year Delone Catholic is given an opportunity to host the ASVAB which gives students who may have an interest in the Armed Services a chance to learn about what career options they have within the military. Our scheduled day to hold the test, Dec. 16, was recently deemed to be a half virtual day for our students. We will still be holding the test, in person, at the school from 8:10 a.m. until approximately 11:00 a.m. If your child is interested in sitting for this exam, please print off this FORM and have him/her return it to their counselor by Dec. 4. If you have the means of filling it out, scanning it and returning it to us via email, that is acceptable as well. For questions, please contact Mr. Steve Hutton.

From the Spiritual Life Office
From the Spiritual Life Office: Virtue = Strength
Our virtue this week is LOYALTY - the strength to make a cause more important than yourself, enabling you to make sacrifices to achieve it. Our school, our team, our family, our togetherness is that cause right now. Christ was the perfect example of loyalty, making the ultimate sacrifice of his life for us. This week, live with a heart that is full, that is loyal, by putting the needs of others before yourself; think of real, practical, and timely ways we can do this - wearing our masks properly, giving up an indulgence and donating the money, letter others through doorways first - the ways are varied and many!

News from The John Gastley Scholarship Foundation
The scholarship is available to all Catholic eighth grade students within reasonable commute distance to Delone Catholic. The application is available here and through the area parishes. Family financial status is not requested or considered in the application/evaluation process. This award is based strictly on what the applicant has achieved academically, and of highest value, what they have demonstrated in community outreach at this early age. We believe those attributes will continue through their high school career as positive peer pressure.

Below is a video from the most recent award dinner. It features this year's scholarship recipient, Victoria Staub, as well as some past recipients and guest speaker Coach Scott Fuhrman. For more information about The John Gastley Scholarship Foundation, how to apply for the scholarship or how to contribute to the ongoing efforts of this organization, please visit their website at www.gastleyfoundation.com
