Talking with Mrs. Tompkins

Friday will be another Freedom Friday Dress down day for our students. I would like to again commend parents for diligently completing the daily COVID screenings. Please refer to page 53 of the School Handbook for guidelines on the Dress Down Day dress code.
This week, we had our first confirmed cases of COVID-19 within our school community. I want to reassure parents that we are following the procedures set in place by the Department of Health and the Diocese of Harrisburg for the proper notification and quarantine of exposed individuals. We are also in consultation with an epidemiologist and other medical professionals, as we make determinations for the continued safety of our students and school community. I appreciate your support in these efforts.
At this time, Delone Catholic is planning to remain open after the Thanksgiving break. The decision to close any diocesan school will be determined on the local level since local counties have varying degrees of risk. We understand that families may be traveling during the holiday season, and as a result, may need to utilize the virtual learning option for their student(s). To help us manage this information, please complete the Holliday Travel and Request for Virtual Learning form prior to your departure.
Tuesday, Nov. 24 is a half-day for students, and the entire school will be on virtual learning for the day. This will be the schedule teachers will be following that day. Your student should plan to be in school uniform and in attendance during his or her regularly-scheduled class time. If your student is not in class that day, he or she will be marked as absent.
Reported COVID cases are increasing in Pennsylvania. We ask that your student(s) continue to follow the CDC guidelines for social gatherings and mitigation efforts as we enter the holiday season. Please join me in saying this prayer for the continued health of our students, faculty, staff and families:
Almighty God, You are the only source of health and healing. In you there is calm, and the only true peace in the universe. Grant to each one of us your children an awareness of your presence, and give us perfect confidence in you. In all pain and weariness and anxiety teach us to yield ourselves to your never-failing care, knowing that your love and power surround us, trusting in your wisdom and providence to give us health and strength and peace when your time is best; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
May God Bless You,
Donna Tompkins
Interim Principal

From the Spiritual Life Office: Virtue = Strength
|
|
This week our virtue theme is RELIABILITY - the strength to be trustworthy of a responsibility. The Lord is the most reliable friend we could ask for. He is always there for us. Let us ask him to strengthen our faith that we might trust him more and inspire us to be more reliable. This week, let’s resolve to be a vocal leader during practice, at home and at school.

News from The John Gastley Scholarship Foundation
|
|
The scholarship is available to all Catholic eighth grade students within reasonable commute distance to Delone Catholic. The application is available here and through the area parishes. Family financial status is not requested or considered in the application/evaluation process. This award is based strictly on what the applicant has achieved academically, and of highest value, what they have demonstrated in community outreach at this early age. We believe those attributes will continue through their high school career as positive peer pressure.
Below is a video from the most recent award dinner. It features this year's scholarship recipient, Victoria Staub, as well as some past recipients and guest speaker Coach Scott Fuhrman. For more information about The John Gastley Scholarship Foundation, how to apply for the scholarship or how to contribute to the ongoing efforts of this organization, please visit their website at www.gastleyfoundation.com
