Talking with Mrs. Tompkins
Dear Delone Catholic Families,

Friday will be another Freedom Friday dress down day. Please share this information with your student(s) and have them follow the dress down day guidelines in the School Handbook. We appreciate the students' and parents' commitment to performing the daily screening.

Student Pick-up and Drop-off
We were notified on Wednesday afternoon by Conewago Township that they will be working on the water main on South Oxford Avenue, directly in front of the school. As a result, one lane is shut down and traffic is being redirected. For the safety of our students, we are asking that students being dropped off or picked up by car follow these directives. Students will still need to enter and exit through the main entrance of the school on South Oxford Avenue. Families who are dropping off students or picking them up will need to find a parking space to do this. In the morning, we ask that you do not park in the school parking lot, since those spaces are reserved for students and faculty members. You may pull into the parking lot to drop your student off near the walkway to the front entrance. In the afternoon, you may use available spaces in the parking lot to wait for your student(s) to be dismissed. There may also be available parking on South Street. Please be patient and use caution with these temporary new arrival and dismissal procedures. Many students and faculty members will be walking into and around the school during arrival and dismissal. We will keep you abreast of the project's progress as best as we can.

Lenten Activities
This week, we were joined by deanery priests on Thursday as seniors and sophomores received the Sacrament of Reconciliation. Freshmen and juniors will receive the sacrament on March 18th. Our seniors have also had the opportunity to participate in a weekly Lenten Chat with Bishop Gainer. The zoom sessions take place Wednesdays throughout March. On these days we follow a modified activities schedule to accommodate these meetings. We are once again so grateful to be in school so our students can deepen their faith during this most holy season.

Prom and Graduation
We are awaiting guidance from the Diocese on the status of the Prom and what is allowable for graduation. We plan to provide an update to parents as soon as this information is communicated with us.

It seems hard to believe that we are approaching one year since schools were closed to in-person learning in an effort to stop the spread of COVID-19. Looking back on this rollercoaster ride, we have grown so much in such a short amount of time. I am so proud of our students, staff, families and community for remaining diligent and steadfast in the enforcement of protocols that are keeping our school safe. Your efforts are reaping rewards daily.

May God Bless You,

Donna Tompkins P '06, P'10
Interim Principal

Texas Relief Donations
Recently, Texas recently endured a lot of destruction and suffering because of a winter storm that went through most of the state. As Doers of the Word, we are going to collect money to send for the victims. For students, here are instructions on how to contribute to the relief efforts:

How do I give?
In your first period classes on A days, your teachers will collect money. Our goal is to have each room collect $30. Any checks can be made out to Delone Catholic High School.

Where does the money go?
It will be donated directly to the Archdiocese of Glaveston-Houston.

I don't need any, but are there any incentives? Yes! Each room that meets their goal of $30, will receive a McDonalds' milkshake coupon for everyone in their room. The room that raises the most money will receive Chick-fil-A gift cards for everyone in their room!

Remember: only give money to teachers on A days! The collection runs from March 2 until Friday, March 12.
Bishop's Lenten Chats
For four Wednesdays of Lent, Bishop Gainer joins with seniors at all of the Diocesan high schools for an hour-long lecture and discussion on a variety of faith topics (everything from exorcisms to politics to how to stay Catholic in college). Topics were suggested by the senior religion classes throughout the schools. The discussions are held via Zoom, and Bishop noted that his favorite part is hearing from the students about what questions they have and what is on their minds.
Virtue=Strength
Our virtue this week is SACRIFICE - the strength to forgo one’s own benefit for the good of others. This week, volunteer to help a coach or a teacher with a task, asking nothing in return.

For Families: Now that we are into the Lenten season, all of our virtues this week stem from the virtue of sacrifice. This is a holy season in which we are called to sacrifice, selfless love, and rededication to our call to take up our crosses. Perhaps your family could obtain a new crucifix for your home or move an existing one to a prominent place for contemplation in this time of Lent.

Learn more about these saints who exemplified virtues related to sacrifice: St. Agnes, St. Junipero Serra, St. Bernadette, and St. Francis Xavier.

Go really deep: For an added challenge both physically and spiritually, try the Stations of the Cross workout. (Mrs. Phenicie tried it - it’s tough!!)
