Weekly News & Updates

February 4, 2026

Dear St. Aidan's Family,

You are warmly invited to attend our Parish Annual Meeting, on Sunday, February 8th at 10:45 am immediately following our morning service. The meeting will be in person and via ZOOM. Reading materials to prepare for the meeting will be sent with the Saturday e-news. We will also have hardcopies available for those attending in person.

This is a cherished occasion for reflection, celebration, and fellowship within our community. Please join us to thank our outgoing Vestry, elect a new Vestry class, and talk about how the Spirit is moving at St. Aidan’s.

This annual meeting also marks my departure from the Vestry and the end of my service as Senior Warden. Serving you all in this capacity has been one of the greatest joys and honors of my life.

Thank you for your trust, support, and friendship, especially during this challenging year in the absence of our very dear Rev. Laura. I would like to extend my personal thanks to Rev. Rebecca, Eileen, and the Vestry members I've served with over the past three years for their support.

While I am stepping down from this role, I remain committed to our parish’s mission and to each of you as a fellow member of this loving community.

Please join us for this special occasion as we celebrate both the future of our parish and the journey we have shared together.

With gratitude and wishing you all every blessing.

Rose DuPont

Senior Warden

Worship Service Volunteers

We are in need of a First Scripture & Psalm reader, Prayers of the People reader and an LEM for Sunday, February 8.

We also would love a Coffee Hour host!
The Sign up below or email Eileen in the office.

Thank you.

Sign up to serve as: Altar Guild (caring for the altar vessels and linens), Lay Eucharistic Minister (serving the bread/wine at Communion), Lay Reader (reading the Bible lessons and leading the Prayers of the People), Usher, and Zoom Tech (livestream the service). Please sign up using the button below. Thank you.

Please plan to attend the Annual Parish Meeting. Each year, the parish gathers both to do the business of the church and check in with one another. We will thank outgoing vestry members who have served generously, elect three new vestry members, and hear about “the State of St. Aidan’s”-or how the Spirit continues to move in our community. A quorum is required to elect new vestry members, and a zoom link and materials for the meeting will be sent out electronically prior to the meeting.

Help is needed to set up the space, decorate, cook & clean up!

Our annual Mardi Gras brunch is February 15 this year! Sign up below to help with cooking and set-up before the event. We are in particular need of a lead to coordinate set-up of White Hall and decorations the day before the brunch; please contact the office if you are available.

LGBTQ+ task force invites survey input by March 15

Episcopalians are invited to complete a 15- to 20-minute survey offered by the Task Force on LGBTQ+ Inclusion to help the church better understand how it honors the dignity of all people and where work remains to be done.

The 80th General Convention established the task force in 2022, charging it with conducting an audit of how The Episcopal Church has lived into its public commitments affirming the inclusion of LGBTQ+ people. A survey report will be shared with the 82nd General Convention in 2027.

Members across the church—those who are LGBTQ+ and those who are not—are encouraged to share about their experiences with pastoral care, sacramental access, representation in leadership, and institutional accountability.

Learn more and complete the survey, offered in English, French,
and Spanish, by March 15.

Created by General Convention in 2022, the task force seeks “to create opportunities for discussion, reflection, and deepening of understanding about existing diversity of family relationships and households among congregations, dioceses, and throughout The Episcopal Church.”

Participants are encouraged to learn more and complete the survey by

Sessions shall continue until Wednesday, March 25 (the Wednesday before Holy Week), before reconvening the Wednesday after Easter. As ever, if any of your flock or others interested would be most welcome. On March 25 Fr. Martin Smith will offer a group spiritual direction on the practice of silence.

Inclement Weather Policy

Just a reminder that St. Aidan's follows the Fairfax County Public Schools inclement weather policy. When FCPS is closed, the church is closed and all in person activities are cancelled or postponed.

  • Staff will work remotely in the event that the office is closed due to inclement weather.
  • Decisions about whether or not to conduct a Sunday service will be determined by road conditions and whether there is power in the neighborhood.
  • Please stay tuned to your email, or check the St. Aidan's website (www.staidansepiscopal.com) for updates or information about services and/or virtual offerings.

We will do our best to create a safe space to gather, but know that lifting up prayers from the safety of your home will sometimes be the best decision!

INFORMATION ON PHISHING

Some parishioners were recently targets of phishing attacks from Rev. Cochran's email address. Phishing is a scam where people are deceived into revealing sensitive information or giving money. St. Aidan’s will NEVER contact you by email with a request to send money or purchase gift cards, nor will we ask for personal verification information by email. If you think you have been the target of a phishing attack, do not hesitate to contact the church office or Rev. Rebecca.

Please see graphic here on a way to send a report of phishing through any gmail accounts. If it's reported as phishing, future emails will also automatically block the sender.

You can also report any/all interactions with scammers to the FBI via this link (https://www.ic3.gov/).
