Center for Spiritual Deepening Offerings

Sufism: The Hidden Treasure:
Friday, October 24, 7:30 - 9:00 p.m. and

Saturday, October 25, 9:00 a.m. - 3:00 p.m.

~lunch provided~

Jesus was a Middle Easterner and his teachings flowed East as well as West. In the East his teachings met the arising religion of Islam, and the interaction was fortuitous. Yes, there were conflicts, but at their heart, Oriental forms of Christianity and the spiritual flowering of Islam—Sufism—shared a common language and often the same vision. Today this spiritual tradition holds rich gifts for Christians in the West. The Semitic heart of Jesus’ teaching is held beautifully by the living tradition of Sufism today.

In this seminar we will explore with facilitator Lynn Bauman these Christian and Islamic roots, and the common language and spirituality that we share as brothers and sisters of the Abrahamic faiths (Judaism, Christianity, and Islam). Sufism holds a Hidden Treasure for us and we will discover it and explore it together.

Focus Music, and the WFMA

Our next show is scheduled for Saturday, October 18th at 7:00 p.m. featuring Ali Tod.

Scottish guitarist and singer Ali Tod fuses classical training with percussive fingerstyle guitar, loop-pedal wizardry, and raw, soul-stirring vocals–drawing comparisons to Rodrigo y Gabriela and KT Tunstall. Her dynamic performances have wowed audiences from Mexico to the UK, earning praise from industry legends, including Brandi Carlile, who said: “She’s ten times the musician we are!”
