Even though the Adult Choir will continue singing through the summer, I thought here at the beginning of June would be a good time to reflect on my first (almost) year at St. Alban's. When I first arrived I was greeted by a nautical themed reception, and immediately I felt the warm and welcoming nature of the St. Alban's community. Throughout the fall the choir valiantly rose to the challenge of longer rehearsals, more complex psalm settings, and additional anthems each week. I gradually learned the quirks of our particular organ, both positive and challenging. If you ever saw me disappear behind it during a sermon, I was reattaching an important piece with an emergency paperclip - these things happen with a 150 year-old instrument!
At Christmas we had the great privilege to perform Vivaldi's Gloria with a chamber orchestra, which was made possible through your donations to the music fund. Your donations helped again when Easter came around so that we could hire a brass quartet to help lead our music on Easter morning! It was a truly glorious way to cap off Holy Week, and hopefully through continued donations we can hire all these wonderful musicians again and possibly for even more performances.
This past Sunday we worshiped by the lake, which in spite of the challenges facing the choir went very well. We also said goodbye and thank you to our two choral scholars, Robert Kopf and Tommy Rhodes, who have been singing with the Adult Choir for the last several years. They both graduated from Davidson College this spring, and we wish them all the best in the future. I am looking forward to the summer and having another wonderful year at St. Alban's! Thank you!
Colin
