REMINDER: On Friday October 13 we will celebrate the 100th anniversary of the miracle at Fatima and the sixth apparition of Our Blessed Mother. Our school choir will be celebrating in a special way; they will be joining up with the choir of St. Andrew School to sing at the Basilica of the National Shrine of the Immaculate Conception for the Worldwide Children's Eucharistic Holy Hour. This will be televised live on EWTN from 10:00 am-11:30 am, so please plan to tune in. We are so proud of our choir and their service to our school and parish.

On Thursday, October 12 our middle school will lead us in a Living Rosary in the gym following our weekly school Mass.

Oktoberfest is fast approaching. Mark the date for October 21 and please plan to join us for fantastic fun, friendship and food! (See the amazing video/special report below for more information!)

We are still seeking volunteers for service, hospitality and gala help. If you can give one hour, or multiple hours we would appreciate any help. By volunteering you are showing your child that their school is important.

Please know that I prayed for our school community during the annual principals' retreat in West Virginia this past week.

Have a blessed week.

Gala Fundraiser with Original Works!

We are excited to announce that we will be partnering with Original Works for a Gala fundraiser!

Through the Original Works program, students will create an original artwork that you then can have reproduced onto a variety of high quality products. The products range from magnets, mugs, t-shirts and nearly two dozen other products.

Each child is eligible to participate in this wonderful program. Once the artwork is created, parents and children will have the opportunity to select which product or products they would like to feature their artwork. The program is designed to encourage creativity and student self-esteem. The resulting products make unique gifts that are practical for any season or occasion...even Christmas gifts!

Complete details on the program will be sent home this week and next in the Wednesday folders. Proceeds from the program will be used to help fund the Gala - our largest fundraiser of the year. For more information on Original Works please visit their website at www.originalworks.com.

Thank you for supporting this unique and creative program!
In Need of a Service Chair Person

Fourth Annual Coat Drive

The winter weather wear collection is underway and will end Tuesday, October 31st. We are doing this a month earlier this year.  We accept coats, gloves, hats, scarves, snowsuits and winter wear for all age groups.   We ask that you please donate only clean and in good condition items.  We want to donate what we ourselves would be happy to receive. We have had such wonderful donations in the past, but we want to emphasize the items need to be washed or dry cleaned (Zips is cheap!) before giving to our less fortunate neighbors.  Of course we also love to receive new items! There will be boxes in the entry and hallway of the school, and some of our students will be helping collect the items from each classroom.  Last year we took our fantastic donations to St. James the Greater Catholic Church in West Virginia - they were simply overwhelmed with your generosity.  This year we may team up, as we did 2 years ago, with St. Theresa Catholic Church in Ashburn as part of their very well organized Divine Mercy Outreach Program.  Thank you in advance and may this be a wonderful year for St. Ambrose School.

Nosebleeds

Nosebleeds are common in children 3 to 10 years old and most are caused by nose-picking or dry air. They can be scary but are rarely a cause for alarm. Most will stop without much intervention and can be easily managed at home.
What to Do:
  • Stay calm and reassure your child.
  • Have your child sit upright in a chair or on your lap then tilt his or her head slightly forward.
  • Do NOT have your child lean back. This may cause blood to flow down the back of the throat which tastes bad and may cause gagging, coughing, or vomiting.
  • Gently pinch the soft part of the nose (just below the bony ridge) with a tissue or clean washcloth.
  • Keep pressure on the nose for about 10 minutes; if you stop too soon the bleeding may start again.
  • Have your child relax a while after a nosebleed. Discourage nose-blowing, picking or rubbing and any rough play.
