From Mrs. Rowley   autumn_leaves_rustle.jpg

We are looking forward to our annual Oktoberfest on Saturday. Please plan on joining us for this fun event. You can order your tickets online at the school website, through the school office, or at the door. A big "thank you" to our PTO, and especially Mrs. Kati Krueger, for organizing the event.

We are in the midst of our annual coat drive! We are collecting gently used or new winter outer-wear for the needy in our community. Collection boxes are in the school lobby. Thank you for your support.

Next Friday, October 27, there will be no school as our teachers will be attending a professional development workshop. However, that evening we will have our third annual "Trunk or Treat" in the school parking. More information below and in the Wednesday folder! Please join the "Queen Bee" for this great event!

Please remember that the Parent Portal will close on Friday in preparation for the end of the quarter. Also, a Signup Genius is on our website to sign up for parent/teacher conferences.

Have a blessed week.

Fourth Annual Coat Drive

COAT DRIVE IN FULL SWING! Many, many thanks to those who have already donated winter wear items to our warm clothes collection for those who can use our help this season.  Some of you have so generously donated  new coats and scarves which are so appreciated.  The COAT DRIVE ends October 31st for our collection to take to the Divine Mercy Program in Ashburn, but if we receive donations a week past that date, we will find a good home for them.  Keep those cleaned and slightly used items, or new items, coming!  You are doing so much to help our less fortunate neighbors and providing great examples of Christian charity to your children.

Get Your Flu Shots!

Every year, influenza sickens millions, hospitalizes hundreds of thousands, and kills tens of thousands . This is not your average common cold. While it is especially dangerous for anyone who already has a health problem (such as a weakened immune system, or heart or lung problems), it can be dangerous for healthy people, too.

Even if you do not get that sick from the flu, aside from missing school or work there is the very real problem that influenza is very contagious - and you can be contagious before you realize that you have the flu. That means you can spread it to others, some of whom may get very sick. Getting immunized helps keep everyone safe: it's not just about you; it's about everyone around you. This is especially true for children, who are not always great about washing their hands and tend to touch lots of things and people around them.

Here are a few things all parents should know about the flu vaccine:

1.  It is the best way to prevent the flu - Hand washing is crucial, and staying away from sick people helps, but we cannot wash our hands every second, and we cannot always know who is sick. It's true that the vaccine isn't 100% effective (the effectiveness varies by year) but it is your best bet if you don't want to get sick.
