What a beautiful day it was on Saturday - and not just the weather. We were witness of our second graders, and a few others, making their First Holy Communion! On Thursday they will make their Third Holy Communion at our school Mass. What a special occasion for our school community!

On Friday we anticipate a day of fun as we celebrate our annual field day. We will have games, team-building and lots of community. Thanks to the Knights of Columbus who will be providing ice-cream treats for all of our students.

Next Thursday evening, May 31, we will have our annual Spring Concert and Art Show. The talents of our students will be on full display! Summer Book Fair is coming on Thursday and Friday of next week. A lot is happening as we wind down the school year!

School will be closed on Monday in honor of Memorial Day. On behalf of our school community I thank all those who serve in the Armed Forces. We keep you in prayer.

Have a blessed week.

Shout out: To the Kramer Family who referred a family to St. Ambrose for next year. They have registered and as an expression of gratitude the Kramer Family will get a pass on their book/technology fee. Why not join them...!

Scholastic BOGO Book Fair

The end of the year magic_stars_book.jpg Scholastic Summer Reading Bo ok Fair is  coming to St. Ambrose at the end of May. As a way to say thank you to the parents and students for their support, Scholastic is offering a buy-one-get-one-free fair so all the students have the opportunity to have some really good books to read this summer.

The schedule:
Wednesday (5/30)-The fair is set up in the library.

Thursday (5/31)- The students make wish lists during the school day. 3:10-9:00pm - Families may come in and buy books.

Friday (6/1) - 8:10am-2:00pm The fair is open to anyone buying books. 2:00pm - The fair is packed up.

This is the perfect way to get lots of good books to read during the summer. It's set up so that not just the cheapest books are free - when the books are lined up by price, every other book is the free one.

So put down the technology and get some reading materials that can stimulate your imagination!
Ronald McDonald House

For the past three years, our school families have been collecting pop   tabs to benefit the Ronald McDonald House Charities of  Greater Washington DC. Currently our school has donated over 38 lbs of pop tabs to RMHC.

This is a reminder to send in all your pop tabs in the next few weeks before school closes on June 15.

Collection containers are located in each classroom and the 6th graders will pick up all pop tabs from each homeroom. Alternatively, parents can drop off their donations in the front office for Mrs. Kiernan's attention. The RMHC sells the metal tabs and all funds support their cause. You can find the pop tabs on soda cans, some soup or vegetable cans, cat food cans, etc.

Keep collecting pop tabs over the summer so we can top our recent donation and continue to assist the sick children and their families that benefit from RMHC.

Thank you for your help in supporting this worthy cause.

Spring Concert Coming Up!!!

The Spring Concert is May 31st at 6pm . A s we are doing    musicals for our Spring Concert, I would love for each class to have a certain "look" to fit their song. Look nice and feel free to have fun with your outfit to go with your song!

Of course, all outfits must follow the school dress code.

Here are specific instructions for each class:

Kindergarten: "My Favorite Things"-
  • Wear a colored shirt (preferably solid), any bright color with pants or skirt. Girls may also wear dresses if they would like!
1st :  "Singing in the Rain"-
  • Wear a (preferably solid) colored shirt and pants or nice shorts. Optional: you may wear a raincoat/rain boots if you have them!
2nd: "O What a Beautiful Morning"-
  • Look like a cowboy/cowgirl! Wear a button down shirt or nicer top (plaid, if you have one-if not, that's okay!). You may wear jeans or longer jean shorts (or girls may wear a skirt if they would like). If you have a bandana to wear around your neck, that's great too!
3rd: "You're Never Fully Dressed Without a Smile"-
  • Wear the colors red, black, and/or white. I would like it if you could keep the colors as solid as possible.
  4th : "Chim Chim Cher-ee"-
  • Look like a chimney sweep! You may wear a black or grey shirt (with no writing on it) with long shorts or pants. Feel free to add other ornaments, such as a hat or necktie, or anything else that looks like a chimney sweep!
5th: "Consider Yourself"-
  • Wear a button down shirt (if you have one) with capris or pants. Feel free to add a cap, top hat, necktie, or suspenders!
  6th: "Hail Holy Queen"-
  • Girls: wear either a black or white dress. If you hve neither, wear a black or white skirt with a black or white top. You may wear a white headband too, if you have one!
  • Boys: Wear plain black pants and a plain black or white shirt (button down or polo)
7th: "Sieze the Day"-
  • Look like a Newsie! Wear capris or pants with a button down shirt (if you have one), otherwise a simple shirt (without writing) is fine.
  • Like some of the other classes, free to add other ornaments, such as a hat, vest, suspenders, or necktie, or anything else that looks like a Newsie!
8th: "From Now On"-
  • Tye dye or plain colored t-shirt with solid long shorts or pants

From the Editor

Keep sending in your submissions! They are due on MONDAYS at 5pm. It's very important that you get your submissions in on time, or I won't be able to get them in until the following week. I accept submissions from teachers, staff, and parents. If you know of something interesting going on in our community, or want to give a shout out to someone at the school, I'd love to add it to the Buzz. I especially enjoy pictures. Please contact Mrs. Rowley to make sure that we have permission to publish pictures of every student in the picture. Pictures need to be less than 5MB. Thanks so much!
