" He said, "My presence will go with you, and I will give you rest."
-   Exodus 33:14
June 13th, 2018
From Mrs. Rowley

On Friday we witnessed two wonderful ceremonies: the Kindergarten finale and 8 th grade graduation. Both events were beautiful witnesses of the faith-centered education which we offer at St. Ambrose. Each year three awards are given to 8 th graders:

The Father Pilon Leadership Award was named for the school's founding pastor. It is given each year to a student who shows initiative, independence, responsibility, and management of activities and effectiveness as a team leader. This year the award was presented to Sarah Mitchell.

The Judith Lesniak Christian Witness Award is named in memory of the school's first principal. It is given to a student for exemplary behavior and service to others, thereby giving witness to Jesus Christ. This year the award was presented to Cal Hecton .

The Janet O'Hagan Bushman Award is named for a long-time parishioner and grandmother to St. Ambrose students, who died in the fall of 2013. Mrs. Bushman was an active member of our parish for many years, serving as a Eucharistic Minister and Religious Education teacher. She chaired several Church Bazaars to support the parish at its founding. Five of her grandchildren have attended St. Ambrose School. This award is given to a graduating 8 th grade student who uses his/her gifts and talents to the best of their ability, for the good of the community. This year the award was presented to Mary Greene Coady.

Congratulations to all three and best wishes to all of our 8 th graders as they look forward to high school.

For those of you returning next year, have a safe and restful summer. To those moving to other places, please know that you will always and forever be a part of the St. Ambrose family. May God keep us all safe, healthy and happy during the summer months.

May God's blessing go with us today,
At the end of this school year we pray.
That you keep us safe and give us rest
So we start again renewed and refreshed.
Full of health, full of fun
Ready to come and learn again.

May God's blessing go with us today,
As we begin our school holiday.
Give your peace and your joy,
To every girl and every boy.
Help the teachers to enjoy the break,
and prepare and plan for the new intake.

May God's blessings await us next year,
To embrace each new challenge without fear.
Fill this school with your love,
and guide our hearts from above.
Full of faith, full of hope,
full of joy, and full of love.

Amen.

Final Summer Reading Book Fair Report
  stack_of_books.jpg
Our sales totaled over $2700!
Because we sold over $2500 in books, we got 10% in Scholastic Dollars to buy more books for the library.
Thanks to all the families that came and supported the fair.
I wish you a summer filled with good books!
Ronald McDonald House

For the past three years, our school families have been collecting pop   tabs to benefit the Ronald McDonald House Charities of  Greater Washington DC. Currently our school has donated over 38 lbs of pop tabs to RMHC.

This is a reminder to send in all your pop tabs in the next few weeks before school closes on June 15.

Collection containers are located in each classroom and the 6th graders will pick up all pop tabs from each homeroom. Alternatively, parents can drop off their donations in the front office for Mrs. Kiernan's attention. The RMHC sells the metal tabs and all funds support their cause. You can find the pop tabs on soda cans, some soup or vegetable cans, cat food cans, etc.

Keep collecting pop tabs over the summer so we can top our recent donation and continue to assist the sick children and their families that benefit from RMHC.

Thank you for your help in supporting this worthy cause.
