Welcome back to school, and to our first school year edition of The Buzz. We are grateful to Mrs. McGuire for continuing in the role of editor. If you have a school-related item to share with other parents, please note that submissions are due to

Please join us tonight for the "Celebrate Calm" presentation by Kirk Martin. He did a presentation for our teachers and we took away so much from the presentation. Thank you to the PTO for sponsoring this.
Please register on our volunteer tracker. You will find this on the website. We are working on a general SignUp Genius with all the opportunities to volunteer and that will be rolled out very soon.
Next Wednesday is "Back to School" night. This is a great opportunity to visit the classrooms, meet the teachers and learn more about our PTO. More details will follow by the end of this week.
We have a new suggestion box outside the office. If you have any ideas to share I encourage you to put it in the box!

After School Soccer Academy
Starting on Monday, September 17th, kindergartens through 4th graders will be able to play soccer after school. For more information, check out this

 Did you know that you can support our school by shopping at Amazon using Amazon Smile? Just go to our school's website and click on the Amazon Smile link to register. You shop the same way and the school gets a small amount of the money you would already be spending! To make things even easier, make sure you add the Amazon Smile Mobile Shortcut to your phone. Here's how you do it:
1. Go to Amazon Smile on your phone and tap the share icon (located at the top on most Android phones and bottom on Iphones).

Mental Health and Wellness Conference
Registration is now open for the fifth annual FCPS Mental  Health and Wellness Conference that, for the first time, will also include an Our Minds Matter Teen Summit for middle and high school students, sponsored by the Josh Anderson Foundation. The conference will be held from 8:00 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. at Fairfax High School on Saturday, September 29, 2018. Dr. Scott Brabrand, FCPS Superintendent, will open the conference, and Dr. Amy Przeworski, Associate Professor in the Department of Psychological Sciences at Case Western Reserve University, will present the keynote message: Using Stress to Your Advantage in Achieving Academic Success and Emotional Well Being. Participants in this conference, which is free to staff, parents, and community members, will be able to choose from 35 breakout options (many offered more than once). Additionally, there will be more than 50 resource tables available, representing public and private agencies providing wellness-related services within our schools and in our community.

I hope everyone had a great summer! I am thrilled to be to continuing on as the Buzz Editor for the 2018-2019 School Year! I know it will be an amazing school year. Please make sure to read the Buzz every week. There's a lot of great things in it. Also, please, send in YOUR submissions! Submissions are due by Mondays by 5pm. I accept submissions from teachers, staff, and parents. If you know of something interesting going on in our community, or want to give a shout out to someone at the school, I'd love to add it to the Buzz. I especially love pictures. Please contact Mrs. Rowley to make sure that we have permission to publish pictures of every student in the picture. Pictures need to be less than 5 MB. Thanks so much!
