IXL Math News

ixl Most of you know about the IXL Math Program, but here are some additional details!

What it is:

IXL is a supplemental math program

What we are using it for:

  • enrichment
  • remediation
  • fun
  • practice
  • daily work

How it works:

  • Each student has a user name and password. He/she can access the program from school or home.
  • Students can go on and find thousands of practice problems on any grade level they want.
  • They can practice a skill from a lower level, practice current skills or challenge themselves with higher levels.
  • They have to receive a certain percentage to earn a game piece for their gameboard.
  • They can race against the clock or practice at their own pace.
  • Once they have mastered a certain topic, they receive a medal.

How we are using it:

  • In the lower grades, some teachers gave the students their user names and passwords and encourage them to have fun with it on their own time.
  • Others use the program as a reward where the students can earn IXL time.
  • In the middle school, all students must master 5 skills on their level as a test grade for the second quarter
  • We also have ongoing competitions where we are recognize the leaders in each class every couple of weeks.
  • We also have posted certificates that the classes have earned when the class reaches 1000, 2000, 5000 questions answered correctly.
  • The Learning Lab students use it to practice skills.

Catholic Schools Week 2013

The theme for the National Catholic Schools Week 2013 is "Catholic Schools Raise the Standards." The annual observance is January 27-February 1.

The 2013 theme supports the recent launch of the National Standards and Benchmarks for Effective Catholic Elementary and Secondary Schools, that ensure the effective operation and responsible governance Catholic schools across the country, thus promoting high academic standards and Catholic identity. The logo illustrates a chart of steady growth culminating in the highest achievement of all, a cross representing the faith that underscores all Catholic education.

We are now in the process of gathering pictures of the graduating class of 2013. Please send in at least one baby/early childhood & one recent picture of your 8th grader. If you have group shots of the graduating class from class trips, birthdays, First Holy Communion, or other school related events please send those along as well. Please do not send in actual photos! We are only accepting photos in some format via e-mail.  Please send your photo attached e-mails to Ms. McCadden:  mmccadden@stanna.org.

Pictures need to be received by Tuesday, April 2nd.

We are still in need of a parent volunteer who knows how to use Apple's "Keynote" program to help put together the slideshow. Please e-mail Ms. McCadden if you can help with this important project
