Las Posadas

Throughout Advent

The Mexican tradition of Las Posadas, meaning “shelter” or “lodging,” lends us an opportunity to practice the welcoming spirit of community and hospitality in a tangible way. The Posada is a traditional community enactment of Joseph and Mary’s search for lodging in preparation for the birth of Jesus. Learn more about the tradition here and get details about how you can provide shelter to Mary and Joseph in your home at standrews.ms/posadas.

The Cathedral Offices are closed for Thanksgiving through the end of the week.

FORMATION

Benedictine Spirituality Forum

Sunday, December 8, 9:30am

With special guest Sister Madeleine Mary

In anticipation of Child’s birth, we often Advent in reflective waiting, silence, and preparation in order to receive the Christ again at Christmas. One of the ways we might better equip ourselves for that birth is through the adoption of a Rule of Life. In this talk we will explore the Benedictine lifestyle and how the Rule might be an aid in writing your own a Rule of Life. For over a millennium, thousands of nuns, monks, and lay people around the world have found this sixth-century Rule a useful guide in their own Christian formation.

About Sister Mary | Sr. Madeleine Mary, CSM has been a Religious for fifty-four years, during which she has served in many roles, including Reverend Mother, Prioress, Formation Director, and Program Director, and Spiritual Director. She holds an M.Div. from The School of Theology in Sewanee, TN, as well as a certificate in Spiritual Direction from The General Seminary. She has also done retreat work and programs widely throughout the United States as well as in Europe. In her writing, photography, and videos, she hopes to help people explore the connections between faith, care for creation, and Benedictine spirituality. Through her photography, particularly, she seeks to introduce seekers to a new dimension of spiritual growth where one can become attuned to what nature itself has to teach us and more aware of our responsibility in caring for creation.
