June 26 live stream worship will be at 8 AM
There will be an 8:00 AM service in the church on June 26. Since we are unable to live stream from the outdoor service, our virtual worship will be broadcast at 8 AM and will be available to watch on-demand afterward.
No midweek service on June 29

Wednesday, June 29, clergy and staff will be out of the office for Staff Appreciation Day. There will be no 11 AM Healing Service that day.
Join us for breakfast on July 10

The Cooks are getting ready for a Continuous Serve Breakfast between services (9:00 to 10:15 AM) on Sunday, July 10 in the Parish Hall. Menu: Eggs, bacon, grits, fresh fruit, toast, and bagels. Donations will be gratefully accepted. We hope this will become a monthly event!
Support youth ministry and meet young adults from around the world!
Many families here at St. Andrew’s have experienced the magic of Camp Chanco. It’s a place where young people grow spiritually and personally. If your family has been touched by Chanco, then we hope you’ll take advantage of a unique opportunity the weekend of August 12-14 to host two members of the camp staff. Camp Chanco summer staff come from all over the country and the world. This is a marvelous opportunity to get to know and support faithful young people, as well as the Chanco summer camp program.

We are seeking 7 or 8 families willing to host two Chanco counselors the weekend of August 12-14. All are over age 18, fully vaccinated and tested for COVID. Transportation from and to Chanco in Surry may be provided. For more information and to sign up, contact Ann Turner in the parish office, 757-595-0371 or parish.admin@standrews-episcopal.org.

Member Spotlight: Pixie & Bob Killebrew
Pixie and Bob Killebrew met in Gainesville, Georgia, in 1966 when she was a first-year high school math teacher and he was a newly-hired newspaper reporter. Their daughter Elizabeth was born a year later when Bob was a Private First Class in the US Army, and a year later, as a Special Forces second lieutenant, he left for Vietnam. During Bob’s thirty-year Army career Pixie taught at probably a dozen high schools, often in those turbulent first years of integration. Bob’s final assignment was at Fort Monroe, and after his retirement, he said to Pixie “Where would you like to live? I’ll take you anywhere, but if we stay around the Chesapeake Bay we can sail.” Pixie said “I love it right here. We have friends, a church and for the first time I’ve got a stable career!” So they became enthusiastic come-heres in Newport News. Pixie retired from teaching in 2008.

Elizabeth graduated in 1989 from the College of William & Mary, went into the Army (a third-generation soldier), married Dale Conwell, a West Pointer, and they both had successful Army careers. They have two lovely daughters and a handsome adopted son. They’ve settled in Alexandria where Dale, a Ph.D., is a government executive. Granddaughter number one is a Virginia Tech graduate and is in the FBI; granddaughter number two just graduated from William and Mary, and grandson just graduated high school and starts George Mason in the fall.
Purse and notes for Brad

If you would like to contribute to the purse for Brad, please send or bring your check to the church by Monday, July 25. Your check should be made out to St. Andrew’s, with “gift for Brad” in the memo line. Please also take time to write a personal note of thanks to Brad and include it in the envelope with your check or send it separately to Ann Turner at the church office. We will collect all of the notes and present them to Brad along with the purse at the festive reception for him following the 10:30 service on July 31.
Upper Room devotional booklets available

Copies of the Upper Room for July and August are available in St. Nicholas Chapel.
