Building God's Kingdom through
Worship, Outreach and Fellowship
Wonder, joy, and deep gratitude
The “Good News to Go” Adult Forum that concluded a few weeks ago was all about a new way to practice evangelism. We learned that evangelism begins with us seeking, naming, and celebrating Jesus’ loving presence in others’ lives and in our own, sharing those stories, and inviting folks to more.

During the first session, we were invited to share the story of a time we experienced wonder, joy, or deep gratitude. If I were asked to share a story today, it would be about my first weeks as your parish administrator. I have experienced all of these - wonder, joy, and gratitude - as I settle into my new role. I felt wonder at God’s timing, and joy for the invitation to join the staff. From my first day, I felt gratitude for your openness, kindness, and patience.

The world is hungry for wonder, joy, and gratitude, and St. Andrew’s has them in abundance. As you generously share them, as you have with me, you share the light of Christ.

Racism Response Team to meet tomorrow, June 17

Motivated by the events in our culture that are culminating in a racial justice reckoning in our nation, St. Andrew's Racism Response Team is now working to determine the best way forward, not only for the group, but for the entire St. Andrew's community of faith. All are invited and encouraged to join us at our next meeting, Thursday, June 17, at 7:00 pm in the parish hall.
Unite the Youth day of service

Hello St. Andrew's Youth!

I am a decades-long advocate of the idea that the youth are not just the future of the Church, they are the Church now, today. While the world the Church operates in is very different even from when I was in "youth group" (in the '70s) and old models of youth work are becoming obsolete, these rapidly changing cultural dynamics are providing new opportunities to engage our faithful and spirited youth.

One of the ways I am hoping to do that is to gather youth (middle and high schoolers, including this year's grads) from each of the Episcopal Churches in the Newport News and Hampton areas, as well as in Hilton Village, to come together for a community service event sponsored through Serve the City on Tuesday, July 13. Though most of our churches don't have many youth, if each church can interest even a couple of kids and we all come together, we can have a pretty good group to do some important work in and for our community - and it may lead to greater interaction among our youth after the event.

If you think this is a good idea and would work for your schedule, I would be very appreciative if you could get back to me by Friday, June 18 so I will know how to register us properly with Serve the City. If you need further information or would like to talk more about this opportunity, please call me at 812-764-0355. Thanks so much and I look forward to seeing you soon!

Peace and blessings,
The Rev. Marc Vance
Associate Rector

Receiving Communion while worshipping virtually
  • If you would like to partake of communion at home while participating in the service virtually, you can call Bill Wilds (880-5460) during the week from 9:00 AM to noon and make an appointment to come and pick up consecrated communion kits for your family to use during the following Sunday’s service.
  • For those who may be unable to attend in person on June 27, you can pick up kits after you attend Sunday worship this Sunday.
  • Please remember to create/designate a “holy place” in your home to store the consecrated Body and Blood between the time you pick it up and Sunday morning.
Socially distanced seating on Sundays available by request

Fully vaccinated people (two weeks out from their final shot) do not need to wear masks or practice social distancing at worship or any church event. However, we will continue to provide socially distanced seating at worship for anyone who requests it.  If you would like socially distanced seating set aside for you, please call the parish office by noon on Friday, and let us know the number of people in your “unit” (members of the same household who will sit together).  The Friday deadline gives us time to inform the ushers and to reserve the socially distanced pews. If there is no request for socially distanced seating by noon on Friday, none will be provided at Sunday’s service.
