60th Anniversary Dinner Dance - Thank You!

St. Anthony’s 60th Anniversary Celebratory Dinner Dance was held on Friday, November 4th. We had 90 people come to celebrate the event at the Crystal Room in Naugatuck. Father Gregory welcomed everyone and said the blessing at the start of the evening. We also honored many of our parishioners who have been members of our parish for 60 or more years. These parishioners are Carmen Accousti, Jean Beard, Lorraine Dixon, Mark Graveline, Theresa Graveline, Gil Graveline, Carl Graveline, Michael Loguidice, Mary Pavone, Katherine Dwyer, and Joe Thompson. We also had the wonderful opportunity of celebrating Deacon Dominic’s 80th Birthday.

A wonderful time was had by all.

We would like to thank all who contributed to and helped sponsor the event. Sincere thanks to our Fundraising Committee, Gail Ahrlich, Tippy Carmody, Annette Murphy, Carol Muzzey, and Emily Saunders who contributed time, energy, and love for our Church!

Congratulations, Trudy!

Trudy Higgins, a parishioner here at St. Anthony Church, is 1 of 4 people receiving the St. Gianna Beretta Molla Award on November 9th at the Annual Archdiocesan Respect Life Mass!

Having spent 36 years serving the needs of individuals and families experiencing severe mental illness, addiction, homelessness, and domestic violence, Trudy retired in February 2018 to pursue her passion for fostering a culture of life. She initiated a Pro-Life Ministry at St. Anthony Church of Prospect in 2018, whose members attend the annual Prayer Vigils during the 40 Days For Life as well as the Marches For Life in Washington, D.C., and Hartford.

Trudy has volunteered at Carolyn’s Place, a Pregnancy Care Center in Waterbury, for the past four years. She spends every Tuesday on the Mobile Ultrasound Van as a Client Advisor, ministering to women who need support and who are oftentimes abortion-minded. She educates them about the variety of supportive services offered by Carolyn’s Place. Respect for the sanctity of human life is of utmost importance to her as she serves these vulnerable women and encourages them to choose life!

Remembering Our Deceased Loved Ones on All Souls Day

We had a wonderful turnout for our All Souls Mass on November 2nd, when we read the names listed of those who had a funeral Mass here at St. Anthony's over the last year. Each year we are given the opportunity to remember and if need be, to say goodbye to all our deceased loved ones (whether they died during the past year or many years ago). During the month of November, we get the chance to remember and be thankful for all the important people in our lives who have passed from this life to eternal life. As the writer of the Book of Wisdom puts it, “The souls of the just are in the hand of God, and no torment shall touch them. They seemed, in the view of the foolish, to be dead; and their passing away was thought an affliction and their going forth from us, utter destruction. But they are in peace.” (Wisdom 3:1-3)

Funeral Masses were held for the following people in the past year:

Vitantonio Polletta, Michael Iacovone, Joan Zulpa, Albert Cerelli,

Michael Dietz, Douglas Schulte, Ricky LoGiudice, Roger Baribault,

Frederick LaChance, Stephen Harrington, Lorraine Bohuski, Rita Fried,

Robert Dorn, John Johnson Jr., Joan VanderEyk, Marianne Lussier,

Nicholas Lombard, Vincent Orlando, Stanley Rek, Robert F. Colangelo, Michael A. Scavoila, Joan Coviello, Anna Logue, Eve Smith, Lena Rosseau, Robert Lavorgna, Angela Deimantas, Michael Semeraro, Luke Mannello

Thank You, Troop 258!

Thank you to the Troop 258 Boy Scouts for the fall clean-up work they did around the St. Anthony Church grounds on Nov 6th. We appreciate the time you took to help keep the grounds looking neat!

Gospel Reflection:

We are hearing the word “Armageddon” tossed around the media and even out of the mouths of leaders on several occasions these days. While Armageddon has specific Biblical significance, it is a term that is loosely used to describe a cataclysmic battle signifying the end of the world. Between the Russian/Ukraine war and rising concerns with North Korea and China, one can easily wonder if world tensions are escalating to an alarming fever pitch and coming to a head. Political, religious and ideological disparities as well as many people giving voice to a general feeling of discontent with increased acts of violence also cause many to wonder. Does everything that is happening indicate that the present world, as we know it, is coming to an end?... click here to continue reading!

Catholic Question Corner

Which Saint gave a homily AFTER he was beheaded?

Due to the persecutions inflicted by the Emperor Decius, the Catholic Faith had waned in Gaul. Denis, one of seven bishops sent there to revive the Faith, journeyed to what is now the city of Paris. He built a church on the Seine Island and set up the first episcopacy in that beloved city.

With the help of two inseparable companions, Denis brought countless souls into union with God.

The pagan priests hated him for it. They eventually incited the governor to arrest Denis and his companions.

The Christian priests held fast to the Faith despite many tortures. Finally, they were beheaded.

Legend has it that Denis picked his own head up off the ground and carried it from Montmartre, the site of his martyrdom, to the future site of the Abbey of St. Denis—preaching a sermon along the way! (What a sight that must have been to the pagan priests!) So now the eloquent St. Denis is regularly portrayed holding his own head in his hands.

Our 7th grade students created cards for Joe Nolan and his daughter Martha on Monday. They are an active family here at Saint Anthony Church, who is a "Gold Star" family. Army Sgt. Joseph Nolan, age 27, was killed in 2004 in Iraq.

May we all remember to pray for all the deceased Veterans.

Decorating for Advent Season 11/26

Volunteers are needed to help decorate the church for the Advent Season as we start to prepare for the celebration of the Birth of Christ!

The Advent season is a time of preparation for our hearts and minds for the anniversary of the Lord's birth on Christmas. It is a penitential season therefore the decorations are purple, similar to the season of Lent. We will be putting up our trees and decorating the sanctuary with the purple of Advent and we will also put out the new missalettes for the start of the new Church year.

We will meet in the church on Saturday, November 26 at 8:00 am

If you can give us a few hours of your time it will be greatly appreciated!

Church Property Improvements

There’s always work to be done on the property, just like your own homes but on a larger scale! Work will be done soon to lower the drains on the flat roofs, replace a large section of shingles on the church roof, and replace a small section of the flat roof over the confessional. The window panes on the stained glass windows need to be sanded and painted. These jobs will cost over $22,000.00. We appreciate your financial support!

St. Anthony Church is a parish where

God’s love nourishes the soul to actively minister to people

and share the joy of the Gospel of Jesus Christ.
