MESSAGE FROM THE VICAR

Dear St. Augustine's 'ohana,

Last week, we heard the Parable of the Sower, which teaches us that God’s abundance never fails, and it shows up everywhere.

  • God’s abundance can show up as the little dill plant that appeared next to Walker Hall.
  • God’s abundance can show up as a tiny seed inside us that holds so much divine potential.
  • God’s abundance can show up in the way we tend the soil of our hearts, taking the time to remove rocks and weeds and allowing our spiritual roots to grow.
  • God’s abundance can show up even in our mistakes when the birds are fed by seeds we tossed carelessly.
  • God’s abundance can show up as we become the mindful sower who cultivates deep relationships with all creation for a healthy spiritual harvest.

In this week's Gospel, Jesus explains the kingdom of heaven with a parable about weeds in a wheat field. Listen on Sunday as we discuss this story in relation to our daily lives. How does God help us discern the "weeds" from the "wheat?"

Blessings,

Vicar Jennifer

From Youth Director Kathy Matsuda and volunteer teacher Claire Spindler who co-led the event:

"It was awesome to hang out & help host such a positive environment for kids to interact. After talking story over Pizza we tried different ways to Tie our Tees & experimented with different Dye color combos. Then we created unique bracelet designs. We coulda sat there all night & chatted while doing the friendship bracelets :)"

The teens who came are active skaters and are excited to wear their tie-dye shirts at the skate park together. We look forward to our next event! If you have a middle school or high school child or grandchild who would like to join, please contact Kathy Matsuda.

KAHILI MAKING

Many hands contributed last Saturday during our session with master feather workers! We've made a lot of progress on the kahili for our sanctuary. Mahalo to all who came to learn, create, and connect.

WE ARE RESTARTING THE CHOIR!

Mahalo to Kirk for leading us and helping us make joyful sounds! All are welcome!

Here are some additional ways to get involved:

  • Start planting and let Dave & Kim know what you are planting.
  • What would you like to bake or cookLet Patsy know.
  • Start cleaning your house for thrift shop, white elephant, boutique items. We're not ready for them since we have no storage, but giving you a heads up. Let Kathy M. know if you have items.

  • Please consider purchasing an EYE tshirt to wear at the Bazaar! See Kathy Matsuda if you're interested.

If you have information to share, please let us know! This is a space to help us stay in touch in a variety of ways, such as news, offers of assistance, or garden bounty (fruits, veggies) you would like to share. Please email Vicar Jennifer or Kathy Webb: VicarJennifer@staugustineskohala.com or admin@staugustineskohala.com

SIMPLE CLEANING TIP

Be green when you clean. Use vinegar, castile soap, lemon juice and baking soda as climate-friendly alternatives for most household cleaning jobs. Dr. Bronner's is a popular affordable castille soap available in a variety of scents (included unscented!) and can be found at Long's and KTA.

Also consider buying refillable cleaning products to avoid unnecessary plastic packaging. And instead of paper towels, use fabric or microfiber cloths.

UPCOMING COMMUNITY EVENTS

COMMUNITY GROUP

for listening and sharing while connecting with 'āina

WHAT ---> The new group is called "OPEN CIRCLE"

WHEN ---> Thursday, July 27 at 5:00 pm at Keokea Park

OPEN CIRCLE is a gathering for conversations about the places in our lives where spirituality and real life meet. All are welcome to cultivate open awareness of our connections with one another and nature.

OPEN CIRCLE is not church or group therapy. It is a time set aside to practice quiet contemplation together and to share and listen. We will hold space for human connection as part of 'aina while reflecting on the beauty of living as well as common difficulties we encounter.

Each meeting will last about 45 minutes and will include quiet time, brief sharing, and listening (you won't be required to speak!). Please join us!

Know of a community event we can post here? Please email Vicar Jennifer or Kathy Webb: VicarJennifer@staugustineskohala.com or admin@staugustineskohala.com
